Noticed several discolored ventral scales on 1 of my Blackheads. Took to vet for biopsy to find Pseudomonas, klebsiella oxytoca and alpha hemolytic streptococci after the results came in today. Had been dosing her via his directions with .8 ml of ceftamizine every 72 and after today's results he has added .6ml of baytril every 48 to the course.
The only source I can readily think of is that they are my only snakes who like to leave urates in the same place they regularly lay versus crawling elsewhere. This is the first health issue for them and they have had these conditions for about a year and a half. Cages get scrubbed once every 5 days and cage liners replaced as needed. I'm switching to a chlorohexidine solution for cleaning and soaking everything they use everytime cage is cleaned (bowls, hides).
Would switching them to aspen be better? I have found the cage liners let me visually determine when cleaning is needed easier but with them being "dirty" and not minding laying in their liquid waste, something with better absorbents may be better?
Any experiences, additional guidance out there?
