In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

This is an adult male approx 5 years old Rhino Iguana. After 5 years he just started getting aggressive with another iguana. He is pretty big approx 3 1/2 feet, from head to tail. So he can be a handfull sometimes. He has some scaring on his head from rubbing the top of the screen enclosure I have to put him in so I can get in and clean. Asking $350(OBO). Would prefer local pickup - Metro Detroit area. But will now think about shipping. Buyer will pay shipping.

Metro Detroit

It's my knowledge that reptiles are illegal in Detroit, now I'm not sure what Metro Detroit means but it might be illegal for you to have this guy in the first place. Any reptile other than a turtle is not allowed to be posessed in Detroit. There are even cases of snake owners, badly bitten by their animals, being charged after the attack just for having the animal in the first place. In order for this guy to have become violent with another Iguana, that means you are posessing more than one illegal animal.

I'm not sure anyone living "in the Detroit area" knows about this important law. Maybe you should call every single pet store in the area and inform them of this.

I don't need to, I'm sure they know the rules and regulations, which is why I know you're out of line here. I did some more reasearch and yes, they are illegal there:

CITY OF DETROIT

ORDINANCES GOVERNING ANIMALS

CHAPTER 6

Sec. 6-1-1
Unlawful to transport any animal on the streets in a manner, which will endanger the animal's well being.

Sec. 6-1-3
Unlawful to keep wild or undomesticated animals.

Sec. 6-1-4
Unlawful to keep reptiles or serpents other than turtles.

Now, there's a lot more to this law but this is the part that your ignorance is unaware of.

I'm not sure anyone living "in the Detroit area" knows about this important law. Maybe you should call every single pet store in the area and inform them of this.

And since your response was not a kind one but rather one with intent to attack my intelligence, I will say something else: There is no way the injuries on this animal's head came from rubbing on a cage that is only used during cleaning of his normal enclosure. Those are large injuries sustained over time. Also, in your picture the animals are sitting on top of one wire mesh topped enclosure which is sitting next to yet another with a wire top. You have shown yourself to be dishonest, and untrustworthy. Perhaps the Michigan Humane Society would be interested in rehoming your animal? But then again, if they aren't illegal in Detroit you should have nothing to worry about right?

I too live in the "metro detroit area" which includes many cities other than detroit, and reptiles are permitted. I'm curious as to how old old these laws are as one refers to snakes as serpents. Actually I have been to Mr. Krause's home to view this Rhino a couple times. Shame on you for assuming what type of habitat and care his reptiles have from a photo. He has a male green iguana almost 5 feet long, and 15 years old. His iguanas are not caged, in fact having a whole room in the house to themselves. There are 2 very large tanks, not totally enclosed. The lizards can go in and out of them as they please. There is proper lighting, heat, humidity, and they eat better than any iquana I have seen. They are held everyday, talked to, just like you would care for any household pet. As to the injury on this Rhinos head, it does not show of abuse. I did view how he "roots" his head on the tank when enclosed, only for when Mr. Krause is cleaning the room. The wound is healing nicely. I would love to purchase him, if only the funds were available.

Reputable, Factual information

In order to alleviate the doubt of the current nature of the law I previously mentioned and reassure that laws do use words such as "serpents" still, I contacted the Michigan Humane Society to verify my information. I recieved a response email which is posted here now:

"Dear Keith,

Thank you for writing the Michigan Humane Society. Unfortunately, not all reptile breeders are as responsible as you - they will sell to anyone without regard for the lifetime care and expense of the animals they sell. This results in many reptiles being surrendered to MHS each year and, as you know, they can be difficult to place in permanent, responsible homes.

While MHS as a nonprofit is not able to track all the individual ordinances across the state, my understanding is indeed that reptiles are banned in the city of Detroit.

Best wishes!

It also seems odd that the only person coming to your defense is an individual who joined this forum as a member within a very short time frame (less than 9 hours) before posting on this thread. It is quite questionable that someone needed to join faunaclassifieds, defend you immediately, and have no other posts before or after. With my first message I only attempted to inform you that you were using a public forum to announce animals that you are not allowed to maintain in your city. It was not an attempt at sabotage or unkind interaction, but rather a note of information for you. I apologize that it was taken so harshly by yourself, but I would not make such statements without correct information.

The problem is not with someone keeping a lizard in violation of some archaic local ordinance it is with the ordinance itself.
There are many communities which do not have a clue on what the herp community is doing in this day and age.
If you are a real herper you would spend your time on trying to change these stupid laws, not in reporting a fellow herper for violation of a law which should not be there in the first place.
I would start by looking in my own back yard before worrying about places hundreds of miles form home.
The Humane Society? Who cares! They have their own agenda and it does NOT include having you or any of your friends keeping and breeding reptiles. Or any exotic animals for that matter.

after viewing this animal it is apparent that it is well cared for (legs, tail base, body are perfect and eyes look clear)This is what we look for in a healthy reptile. the scratches on the head are unfortunate, it is something that happens from time to time when you work with large reptiles. This guy seams vary honest to me by posting a real pic of the animal. If you want or work with rhinos this animal looks like a great investment for $350.00

We all should be honered with your reply in this forum. Thank you Geoff and Mike. Both of you are experts in your field.

I apologize reticaboa I was not aware Fauna had regulations on when persons could sign up and that there was a required number of posts. I learned of Fauna from a friend and happened across this ad as I am looking for a Rhino. I'm not one of those persons whom has a lot of time to be working on the internet, so I do a little at a time. With all my reptiles, other animals, and 3 children, I'm sure you can understand how my time may not allow for such things. So I do not waste my time anylonger, nor yours, Detroit city is not the same as Metro Detroit. In the city of Detroit, there are not owners of cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, etc, however in the Metro area, there are cities which allow animals such as these, as well as horses, kangaroos, and many others. I'm pleased there are local people such as Geoff and Mike that are aware of how things are, and how they should be for our herp family.

I may not be involved with this, or know anyone dealing in this, but even my observation of that one photo tells me that other than his head, that Rhino is fine, other than truly having a bad reaction to being caged. I have that issue with my newest beardie, because I've been taking she and my male outside for sun. Something tells me that this person feels they need to be right, and had the audacity to call about an animal that is not his responsibility. Kevin seems fairly truthful to me, and I'm all the way in sunny FL. I think EVERYONE needs to step back and stop arguing, and work on getting this beautiful animal into a good home. His owner was trying to do just that before someone had to drag law and policy into the mix.

GET A LIFE!!!

My reply is to repticboa, get a life! seriously! Don't worry about other people's business! This is a classified section for people to sell reptiles, thats all he's trying to do is sell an iguana, You act like your the reptile police!
And detroit has more exotic reptile stores than all the other cities in Michigan combined, And I'm from Detroit and trust me the last law detroit is concerned about is if somebody owns an iguana!

Speaking of people just joining fauna. ReticaBoa didn't you just join yourself.
