Well, I guess I need to put closure on this entire thing. Some astute individuals may put 2 and 2 together with another message I posted in another forum concerning this situation, and rather than leave any questions hanging, I want to stamp this one closed.
A couple of years ago, I sold some snakes to John Organiscak. He offered me a credit card number to pay for them, but since it was a substantial sum of money, I really didn't want to be paying the bank's interest rate they charge me, and I asked him to just send me a check to pay for the animals. Unfortunately, right around this time (at least as far as I can recollect), his wife became seriously ill, and their finances took a real hit from the medical bills and her being out of work during treatments. Apparently eventually John lost his job as well because of taking too much time off to care for his wife during this trying time.
The following summer rolled around and John and I discussed the outstanding debt and a way to resolve the problem. I agreed to send him an even larger order of animals, in the hopes that he could sell off those animals, and be able to pay off the entire bill and possibly have enough in his pocket as well. But this did not work as planned, as he had some very substantial medical bills that had to have a higher priority, which I understood.
But sometimes I just get nervous, I guess, and having gotten screwed before, I felt that maybe I'm just being played for a sucker. I know everyone wants to give someone the benefit of the doubt, but sooner or later there comes a time when you begin to doubt your own judgement. So that was when I posted this thread, to see if there was any reason at all that I should be real concerned about this debt owed to me. And I have to admit I was very relieved that there was not, based on the lack of any real negative responses here.
So I decided that I would just wait it out.
So, a week or two ago, I was stricken with a thought that maybe I could resolve this entire issue. Absolutely a flash of inspiration, if I must say so myself. I really didn't want to just forgive the debt, although that had crossed my mind several times. Certainly I'm not making that kind of money to be able to just say to someone "Ah, forget about all that money you owe me and have a nice day." But I certainly was not going to pester John about it either.
So I had an idea. With my best "Godfather" voice impersonation, I called John on the phone, and told him that I had an offer that he could not refuse to resolve this outstanding problem we have. Actually he could have refused it, but heck, it sounded good.
So after some thought, John accepted my offer, and I am satisfied that everything has worked out to be in both of our best interests. I believe he is relieved about the way this ended, and I have to admit that this is every bit as satisfying to me as getting a check in the mail for the total amount owed to me would have been.
So, I am now the proud owner of the domain name KingSnakes.com and John Organiscak no longer owes me a dime.
Amazing what a good laugh is worth these days...
This case is now officially closed.
