In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Beware of Terry Lilley Central Coast Reptile research center . Last febuary 2001 I sent this outfit a 30% deposit in the amount of $1800.00 for the delivery of 2 17inch galapagos tortoises. After 6 months listening to all kinds of excuses why they could not obtain said animals I requested my deposit to be promptly returned. Last Sept. they sent $400.00 and a promise to quickly repay the balance. Its now been a year still no deposit refund but all kinds of excuses why they no longer have my money. I have also come to find out that they do not have a captive bred wildlife permit, the permit needed to transport Galaps. across state lines legally. So learn from my expensive mistake. If You are not sure about a dealer use some kind of service like escrow.com so that You wont get ripped off like I did. Any questions or comments feel free to email me. Best of luck fellow Herps! Sincerely, Dean McCarthy

Yes, we have had the same problems with Mr. Lilley!! As of Oct, 2000 we lost one of our best herping friends, Paul Barringer. In Oct. of that same year we contacted Mr. Lilley because Paul had already began a deal with Mr Lilley. Paul left behind a wife and 5 small children.
Well, to make a long story short. We have not recieved all of the funds owed!!(over a thousand dollars) Any drop shipments went fine but when it was time for him to make payments on animals he took on consignment he has NEVER paid!! What kind of person takes advantage of a family like this???
We have every correspondence from him and have tried talking to him on numerous occasions to no avail! Like Mr. McCarthy, we have heard many excuses but no money! Mr. Lilley, if you are reading this we are still waiting on the last check you promised was in the mail!
ALL Herpers BEWARE of this person!!! If Mr. Lilley makes good on the money owed I will be the first to post. This ALL of course is just my opinion! You decide??

Just a minor correction here. CITES has no bearing on whether or not an animal can cross state borders. You can take an Appendix I animal from New York to L.A., and CITES could care less-they have no regulatory authority over it.

The Endangered Species Act is what you are thinking of. Species listed on the ESA require a captive-bred wildlife permit to be transported accross state borders. Then, it is the buyer that must have the permit- not the seller.

Anyways, this was just posted as an aside. I have not dealt with Mr Lilley, nor do I have any knowledge of his business ethics or lack thereof.

Warren,
Terry still has not piad for the corn collection of Mr. Barringer's? If you would like to email me I can give you some info on the deal that involved the corns if that is what you are referring to. That really is too bad that someone who claims to be almighty does things like this.

Update March 17th 2002. No payments have been made. still owes $1400.00. Still getting excuses but no return of my money. BEWARE

You guys are NUTS!! I'm ALL for giving a guy a chance to make right...but, over a YEAR??? And for $1000 EACH??? I wouldn't "threaten" to sue....I WOULD SUE!! Take him to Small Claims Court! Even if he doesn't show up, you can stll get a default judgement, and with THAT, you can garnish his wages, freeze his bank accounts, etc....and judgements are good for TEN YEARS, with an EXTENTION of another ten years!! THAT'S WHAT I WOULD DO!! ....Neil

Thanks for the warnings, guys. Sorry to hear what happened to you. Yea, Neil's right, It is time to take action and persue this legally. Just my opinion.

April 2, 2002. Still no deposit returned. No payments made. Still assuming that I have been RIPPED OFF. Yes I know I should take legal action, and I will. Just trying to give the Smuck a opportunity to make things right. Good Luck! Dean

I know the feeling of being rip off and it's not funny at all no matter for what amount. We all work hard for our money and then to have someone come and rip us of our hard earn money.

Neil Gubitz

I heard for you to sue someone in small claims court you have to go to the state were you purchase from to do that. Also depends on the amout you got rip off for I know it don't sound good but it's going to cost you to go there fill out the paper work then come back home and wait then go back the guy doesn't show up the first time then there we go again fly back home then wait and you know the rest.

well that is just my thoughts

Buy the way Neil I really think your doing a great job by trying to help people like us regaurdless if it's positive or negitive atleast your straight with your posts.

Good luck to the person that started the thread.

Luis...I could be wrong, but I THINK the laws for inter-state sales are different! You MIGHT be able to go to the small-claims court in YOUR district and sue them in another state...then THEY have to come TO YOU! I THINK!! If ANY of you lawyers out there know if I'm correct, would you please reply in this thread??
Luis...Thanks for undertanding that I don't PICK on somebody just cause they're not in the (non-existent) clique!! If you're wrong (in the "Monk's" opinion), I don't care WHO you are, I voice an opinion....you are more than welcome to take that opinion and toss it out the window, if you want....but, I really think that MOST of my advice is sound and just plain COMMON SENSE! If anybody comes to this board with a legitimate complaint...is STRAIGHT-FORWARD...and can understand what people are saying without getting defensive....they'll go a LONG WAY in gaining the respect from the herp community at large, and ALL THE HELP YOU'LL EVER NEED! As our fearless leader (Rich Z.) says...this site is a double-edged sword...try to "fool" us...and you'll have a bunch of very belligerent people (including yours truly) on your case BIG TIME!
Just "Heed the Monks", and you should do fine!
  ....Neil

Neil you know the problem I had which we won't speak about it. I spoke to someone and they told me where ever the purchase was made you need to go there and address it there but I could be wrong. Maybe that's why there's so many rip off because the guy/girl knows this and in a way the law protects them. but like I said before it depends on how much money you got rip off for. So if someone does know for sure please let us know as this maybe helpful to me.

Dean here again. Still NO return of the $1400.00 Terry Lilley Central Coast Reptiles swindled me out of. No payments but yes I am still getting excuses! Court date set but Sheriff has yet to serve the smuck. I will keep You all up to date.

Dear Galapranch
I saw Your posts here and Yahoo,s Google and a few other sites. Anyway I am trying to buy a Aldabra tortoise and saw an ad on Kingsnake that Centeral Coast Reptile Research Center had one for sale. They are near were I live . I have had problems in the past with reptile dealers on the internet.. So after running a couple of searchs on Centeral Coast Reptile Research Center, I saw that You and one other person had a bad experience with this outfit.. Has Your deposit been returned? Have any payments been made? Are You still in contact with them or are they ignoring You? Thanks for any help You might offer.. Sincerely Jeff Caviros

Jeff Sorry for the delay reponding to Your question have been away on business. Centeral Coast sent me an e-mail on June 3rd that they had got a loan and had already sent $300.00 and would send the balance on Friday the 7th. I did get the $300 on the 18th. (and the check even cleared) Guess he didnt send it when he said or the post office took 11days to get it 120 miles. But hey after a year and half trying to get my deposit back originally ($1800.00) any money is welcome. It is now the 28th of June and I have yet to get the balance "by Friday". This out fit has demonstrated not only are they fraudulant but they also have a problem following through with what they said they would do. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE SOMEONE YOU WANT TO SEND YOUR MONEY TO? Good luck Dean

I haven't done any business with CCRRC, but did do a little research on a male blue gtp they were selling a while back. It turns out the photo was edited(no surprise as the branch was blue too) but the snake was also a female. Very questionable in my book.
