I thought I would do a little update for everyone who had e-mailed me after I had to do a quick sale on a bunch of my babies a few weeks ago after my house burned down. To recap, all the animals including the crickets and meal worms were removed from the house by neighbors and fire fighters while I was at work!
I took this short video the day after the fire when I was trying to clean up and wait on insurance people to show up.
Sadly I have had a few losses. My oldest ground skink George died the night of the fire, probably from smoke inhalation since his tank was right near a burning wall and it was higher up then any of the other display tanks. My largest male leopard gecko named Raja dissapeired. I'm hoping someone stole him and he is being well taken care of..but he most likely got out of his display tank when the sliding glass door opened in a move from my room to the yard or from the yard to my father's basement and is now in lizard heaven. I have also lost 3 of my 5 salamanders that I just brought home from PA, I have NO idea how they got out of their tank but my dad's girl friend found a few dried up in the basement..um to be honest I think she had something to do with that.
out of all the geckos I had I have 16 left to rebuild with next year or the year after that. And I have to give a BIG thanks to Nick at LeckoMyGecko for helping a TON. He took in my incubator with some odd 35 eggs in it and even the ones that were flipped up side down for more then 24hours are hatching!!!
So i have been getting photo updates of my geckos babies.
my now temp reptile set up looks like this:
AND now for the great news! My best friend and I are buying a house of our own so I will be able to get out of my mother house (again) and have my OWN house with my OWN reptile room!!!!!!!!!!!
I am already pre-approved and now I just have to get a house. So next year when breeding season kicks off I should have tons of fatties and leopards and a really awesome reptile room for them to live in. and since I will not be living with my step father any more, i can finely get a pair of ball pythons lol
As to the rest of my family, my mother has to tear down the rest of the house and rebuild. She may move off the gulf and go inland depending on how much it will cost to rebuild. apparently it will be a few thousand just to remove the old house and cap off the sewage.
Ok I think that is about it for now. Once again, thank you everyone who e-mailed me with offers of help and well wishes after the fire. Those e-mails really did help make things better!
