In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My JCP just turned two last week. He's been eating great up till now. Been feeding him 2-3-4 frozen medium to large rats with no problem but all of a sudden he quit eating. It's been a good month now and I'm a bit worried.
Nothing new has changed in his environment. The last batch of frozen rats are slightly larger but I think he's already downed a cpl last month (I forget for sure).
No pet shop near me carries frozen rats so I can't get any medium sized any time soon being where I get em' on-line takes several weeks to get them to me.
I'm considering buying a live medium rat to try. Whatcha think?
Thanks

hmmm..can't find an edit button so let me add here..anyone think I should try a frozen mouse before I try a live medium sized rat?

Personally I'd try a smaller f/t animal before a live anything in case he gets too precious to go back to f/t.

Also a month isn't that long to fast - as long as he isn't losing weight or looking thin I'd wait him out a little longer.

I'm no expert on this but I have heard a lot of more experienced people say that at a certain age male snakes go off food when it's breeding time... do you have any females in the vicinity that might be making him a bit twitchy?

It's been pretty hot in the northeast, which can cause some disruptions - whether due to high temps, or low (one of the side effects of AC). Double check your temps.
Also, it sounds like you've been hitting him pretty hard with food, it may well be that he's just saying enough already. 4 medium rats at a feeding (if I interpreted your statement correctly) is a lot for a JCP - especially for a two year old male.

Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner. My email didn't notify me. Better check my settings here...
anyway...what I did was to slit the defrosted rat open a little with a utility knife. My JCP sniffed at it for a bit then snapped it right up...whewwww.
Wasn't the heat b/c it's not terribly warm where I keep him...bout 80*.
He was eating 3 to 4 medium sized sized rats every week or two and I think these bigger ones may have put him off kilter a bit...or who knows what? No females around (yet).

The funny thing was...I slit the rat open on it's belly and my snake kept trying to wrap his mouth around the rat from the center and couldn't get it in. He struggled with it for quite a while till he inched his way towards the rats head finally and then devoured it. Next rat I slit open a bit by the head and he ate him up easily.
I don't think I'm going to need to operate on the rat next time. I think my snake finally gets it...whewwww.
I "may" go back to slightly smaller rats next time I order them if I see he's still having a bit of a hard time. Gotta keep my eyes on him.
Interestingly enough none of the half dozen pet shops near me carry frozen rats..only live. Six bucks each to boot...whewwww. Lucky I have my JCP trained on frozens otherwise it sure would be expensive.
Been using RodentPro.com and pretty satisfied with them. Anyone know any companies that are less expensive? Just curious. It's the shipping thats expensive. Wonder if I have enough rats left till the Reptile Show comes to town. Hmmmm..better go count rats.
Thanks for the responses
andy
