In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

bites?

Give it a little time. An hour and a half isn't that long. Yeah, they bite. Anything with a mouth can bite you, and a lot of them will from time to time. I got bit by my childrens python a few days ago. Get the snake when it is little and handle it frequently as it grows. And remember, you will get bit.

all i can say is MOVE VERY VERY SLOWLY, and even then your proberbly going to get bit, my carpet python bit my figer the other day

My blood python definitely fits its' name...it likes to draw blood!!! It's still a baby so I'm hoping it'll grow out of it..but questionable.
Also my Ball Python is sometimes nippy but usually they make great pets. My Kenyan Sand Boa has NEVER bitten (yet). Red Tail boa's need to be handled while young so when they're 10+ feet long they don't bite. Green Tree Pythons (especially babies) seem to be quite nippy. That's all I have experience with so can't help you with anything else..good luck

Most of my Amazons will bite the crap out of you given half a chance. I got bitten by a juvie while removing shed by hand twice just the other day. You get used to it over time.

i have somewhere over forty of all kinds and types and every single animal at one time or another has bitten me with the excception of our two copperheads, which i do not deal with (they dont even get a chance)... i have been bit on the nose , cheeck, hand finger arm and leg... some of those bites are from chewers... just great not only do they bite but they dont release and chew and chew and chew some more

I have 15 KSBs, 2 ATB, 1 red milk, 1 prairie king and 1 BCI.

Of course the ATBs are always trying to bite me but I use snake hooks for them, so far they haven't bit me yet.

One female sand boa in particular is a biter. She will strike at anything near her head. The sand boas bite to the side, they don't strike straight out, so it's quite startling at least to me. If you qwell your desire to jerk back when a snake bites you, it makes the bite very inconsequential. (I'm not talking 10 foot snakes here)

Now that said, my female sand boa bit me as I was taking her water dish out to change it. She bit my pinky and I jerked pulling her completely out of the cage and slung water all over the place. Luckily I was able to catch her with my other hand before she fell to the floor. Since I jerked, it left a small gash in my finger along with one of her teeth.

What I did wrong was when I grabbed the water dish I apparently put my finger almost directly on top of her head. She was buried and I didn't see her head. She never bites if you pick her up mid body.

I agree with the other posts that at some point you will get bitten by your snakes.

I work at a pet shop and I'd take a snake bite over a ferret, bird, hamster bite any day.

My worst bite was a ferret that was enraged and attached to my index finger. They have half inch teeth top and bottom. He was jerking his head side to side like a monitor does when it eats. As soon as he would let go of one finger and before I could get my hand away, he was on another finger.

I couldn't use my right hand for over a week because of all the bites and swelling. I don't handle many ferrets any more.

Yes, you will get bit. I had a red-tail boa years ago that never bit me until he was about 6 years old. I had him since he was a hatchling. He had been to local schools around tons of kids, even in a modeling shoot with cameras all around. I was in the kitchen holding him, and something triggered him.
One thing that I can say will reduce your bites, feed in a seperate tank. That is almost a must. If you pick him up with your hand from his tank, and feed him with your hand from his tank, he will associate your hand with food everytime. If he is being moved to a different tank to eat, he will associate that tank with food, not your hand. As others have said, handle as much as possible also. Just remember, no matter what you do to prevent it, you WILL get bit. Alot of people use gloves and long sleeves to "protect" from the bite, but how much fun is it to get dressed up everytime to hold your pet? Unless it's a venomous snake, a bite is really nothing. Wash it with Dial soap, and go about your day. Hope this helps, just don't get discouraged because you get bit. You will get used to it.
