    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

You might think I am crazy but:

I had a thought and wanted some input. I was wondering if the sound of running water in the room with my herps would create a more pleasant atmosphere for them. I was going to put a fountain in the room. I know it is soothing to me and thought the reptiles might enjoy it also. Has anyone done anything like this? What are your thoughts? I know some believe snakes cannot hear. After reading some studies on the subject I believe they can.

It all depends on what kind of herps you have. Running water in the room will increase humidity and that can either be beneficial or detramental. If you have nerodia or sub tropical/tropical snakes, great idea. If you have something more like coachwhips or other animals from a dry area you could be faced with all sorts of nasties like URI's and scale rot. I myself have never read anything that would cause me to believe snakes can hear nor have mine ever exhibited such behavior but who knows? I would suggest you make your decision based on enviro needs above pleasantries.

I was thinking a small tabletop fountain. I have a mix of several different reptiles that I am beggining to get together to breed. This fountain would not make a large enough difference in humidity to affect the animals in their cages. I do worry about the pleasantries. Although most of my herps are breeding animals I love all of them like family, no better than most family, and want to make them as happy and relaxed as possible. I understand the concern about humidity but it would not affect overall humidity like I said.
