This may be a bit long, please bear with me.
I picked up a Solomon Island ground boa at the Frederickburg VA show on the 11th. This is supposed to be a captive bred neonate/juvenile (I am assuming this year's litter) that is feeding every 3-4 weeks on house geckos. All of this is per the breeder from whom I purchased it. The snake appears very healthy, no sign of mites or other parasites. All in all it appears to be quite healthy. I have it set up in a 40 gallon breeder tank complete with hides and a live plant plus 2 seperate water dishes (one in each end of the tank). The ambient room temperature is 70-75 F with a warm spot in the tank reaching 85 F give or take a few degrees. The humidity is kept between 50-70% (usually between 60-70%).
As of the day I purchased him, I was told he was last fed a gecko approximately 3 weeks beforehand and should be ready to eat. I have put the gecko in the cage with him and left it over the weekend, I have tried putting both into a small rubbermaid container in the tank and leaving them overnight, neither option has resulted in the snake eatting the gecko. Are there any tricks that anyone knows of? I've not handled the snake to allow it to acclimate to it's new environment (with the exception of last Thursday night placing it and the gecko into a tub together). I would love to contact the breeder, but he didn't give me his number and I only know his first name (just cannot remember his last name). Any advice would be extremely helpful.
Thanks in advance,
Dianne 'Raven' Johnson
