2.2 Redbelly Watersnakes (Nerodia erythrogaster erythrogaster )
Born the first week of August, these guys are growing fast and developing a lot of orange. All are feeding voraciously on Rosey Red minnows, Rosey-scented pinks, and an occasional unscented pink. After the three I held back for myself, these four are the nicest of 29 babies from two deifferent litters.

Neonate, lighter phase
As you may know, this species undergoes a drastic ontogenetic color change, developing a solid brownish dorsum and vivid orange venter as adults. These pictures were taken a few days after birth. They have since developed intense orange labials and are showing substantial reddening midventrally.
