In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have heard conflicting advice from other breeders on the subject of weight requirements for breeding female N. amyae, with weights ranging from 40 grams to 60 grams!

I have a small group of rough knobtails, and the largest of my females is right around 50 grams and about 1 year old. I have been itching to attempt breeding her but before I do I wanted to get some expert opinions. So do y'all think she is big enough and old enough?

Amyae

I'm in the same boat. I have 4.4 that are all 35-50 grams. I am going to hold out till they reach 60 and see if I can get a clutch or two near the end of the season. Mine are eating well on roaches and crickets and I'm just waiting. I tried to buy some adults that where posted on kingsnake the other day, but missed out on them by a few hours. These guys are still very hard to find. I have 4 bloodlines, and hopefully will add 2-3 more this year.

A combination of weight and age are important. I will breed females that are 45g and over one year of age. Anything smaller than that I will only breed if they have shut down their feeding. Good luck!

breeding weight

Michael,
Can you share min. breeding weights on some of the smooths particularly Pilbarensis and Occidentalis?

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

Here's a list of preferred weights but sometimes it depends on how the females are doing as well.

levis - 25g or 22g if one yr old
pilbarensis - 22g or 20g if one yr old
occidentalis - 22g or 20g if one yr old
stellatus - 15g-20g
deleani - 18g-20g
laevissimus - I haven't had much success with these guys but I have had females produce follicles at less than 9g.

Regards,
Michael, BGR
