In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well this is something that i have been thinking of since moving into this area of NC from Raleigh last summer. We have two shows a year here in NC and they both have good turnouts. With that i know ALOT would like to have more shows in the state to give them more chances to pick up quailty animals within a close driving range from neighboring states.I have been thinking that a "Western NC Reptile Expo" might be a good idea to put on as it would make travel from states like TN , SC, VA, GA, AL ,Fla and others a easy path to travel . I Live right off of I-40 and as we know its a major pathway for travelers that connect ALOT of states lol. I was thinking of looking into a few close by cities that would be within several major highways that would make the trip easy and swift as the routes would be major highways to access . The first idea is the city of Hickory NC , they have a 3-4 yr old convention center that is located with in almost spitting distance of I-40 and within 1/2 mile of the exit to access the center. They also have several hotels/ motels , resturants with in a 5 mile area of the center. what i would like to do is get feedback from anyone who goes to the NC shows each year if they would like to see a 3rd show in the state ? and more specifically in the western part ? im going to list a multiple choice pole of what you would like to see in a show and possible location in which you would most likely travel to see or participate in a show. I would really like feedback be it good or bad on how you feel about this topic and possible new show put on in NC

Thanks for replies and ANY comments are very welcomed on this topic.

I think a Western NC show would be great, as long as it's done right. It doesn't look like there's going to be another show in Bristol this year, at least I haven't seen anything about one and their website is gone.

Hickory is the only one of your location choices that is actually western NC though. You might consider Asheville too, it's a good sized city and would draw alot of TN customers as well as GA and SC.
I'd vote for no mammals.
If it's not a spring show, I'd consider vending again to support the show.

It's no small undertaking to get a new show off the ground, but with 2-3 years, and good incentive for both customer and vendor, I think it could work.

I'd love to see a show in Charlotte because it's very accessible to surrounding states, and because I know my sister would give me lodging. :)

I believe Tony Cueto is moving his Columbia, SC show to Greenville, SC this year. So this will effectively be a Western South Carolina Show.

Do you have a link for info on this show? I'd love to find out more about it.

Western Show

I attend both shows in Raliegh and the show in SC yearly and would love to see another show to visit or attend within a reasonable driving distance. Now, I know that reasonable depends on person to person...for me, I'm not looking for anything more than than about 5 hours away. My current income just cannot support anything more than that really, even with savings and compiling costs with another breeder, so Hickory would be just at that limit, as is the SC show. The move in place might actually push my limit this year, and I may not attend unless things work out good. So most other locations would be alright as they aren't much over 3 hours for me to drive. And as being a relative "beginner" in the business portion of herptological endevours, would love a chance for people to actually "see" what I have to offer them. So all in all, I'm for it. Sorry it took so long to say that...lol

Since I live in East TN, Hickory would be my choice of the cities you gave. Asheville would be much more likely to attract people from TN since it's a lot closer and there are no shows in TN I don't believe. I would stick to reptiles only and no venomous. I'll never go to another show in Bristol if they do have one. I hated the last one.

I think it would be great to have another show in North Carolina. I live in the Triad so anywhere close would be nice. I go to both shows in NC and the one in SC. Hope you get it worked out. Let us know what happens.

I'm P R E T T Y sure that Tony has a show set up for greenville, SC this year. I'll have to double check with him, but I remember seeing it on his site or something.

Greenville SC might as well be western NC. I got married in Hendersonville, and all my relatives flew into Greenville.

It's less than an hour from Asheville, right?

western nc show

Hey Alan, great idea.I persoaly would enjoy another show and the chance to meet more people with the same interests as I.I cant wait for may 1-2 ,and looking forward to meeting you also.See ya there:)

For those individuals who have attended the Bristol show. I would wager a fair amount of money and body parts that the Bristol show will not be held. One of the primary participants and organizers for said show was Animal Adventures, which is located in Bristol. This establishment has been shutdown due to have native species and a few other items within their establishment that is strictly prohibited by law.
Personally, I would like to see a show organized in Asheville or Hickory. They are within a reasonable driving distance for me.
Mr. Douglass, I could not agree with you more. The bristol show (last year) left alot to be desired.

Best regards,

Carson Grindstaff

Another member of this site was kind enough to inform me that Animal Adventures has not been shutdown. I merely repeated what I read in the local newspaper, and apparently their reporting was somewhat off. The report from the newspaper states that they were found to be in possession of native wildlife.

My apologies to all for not verifying all information and my thanks to smart_ask for pointing out this to me in private.
I still believe there will not be a show in Bristol this year.

Best regards,

Carson Grindstaff

isnt there a ...

Animal adventures in cherokee NC?

I was talking with someone last night that had told me ( i might have the name wrong ) that there was a place in cherokee that had all types of venomous snakes and that the owner had died and his wife sold all of the reptiles they had there .Just wondering as i thought the name was familar .

Animal Adventures in Bristol TN/VA.

As far as the show in Bristol, I doubt there'll be another one either. I forget the website address for the show, but the site has been gone for some time.

Western NC Reptile Show

There was one reptile show that was on the books for Charlotte, NC this year in July called Repticon. We were planning to attend, keep watching the website for early ticket sales etc. One day in June, saw that it was no longer on there, the Ga and SC show was listed but not the NC show any longer. So we contacted the people at Repticon and was told by a gentleman there that there was some conflict with the Gila Productions that ran the NC Rept Show in Raleigh and that there would not be a Repticon here in NC now. He went on to mentioned that Gila Productions had some kind of rights to shows here?? I did not understand that. WE were very disappointed that this was not happening since it was closer to us than the Raleigh show.

If you do one in Hickory, let us know as well. That is only an hour -hour and half drive for us. We would come. We went to Columbia twice a few years back but was disappointed in that show and have not went back. We do go to Raleigh and next year we are planning to attend the Daytona show.

Thanks

Roxanna - I'm the person from Repticon that you spoke with.

Just to clarify: After some discussion on this board last year, I spoke with Alex at Gila Productions and we reached a "gentlemen's agreement" through which we agreed not to promote in North Carolina and Virginia, Alex agreed not to promote in South Carolina and Georgia, and we compromised on shows in Florida. As a result, Alex canceled the the Gila Productions Atlanta show, and we canceled our Charlotte area show. We're very happy with our agreement with Gila Productions, and there is no conflict between our teams.

We've worked very hard over the past year to re-build the Columbia, SC show. If you haven't seen it in a few years, I'd encourage you to stop by this June to see what the show looks like in 2008.

Thanks!

Billy Healy

Repticon has done a great job with the SC shows, and Alex does a great job with the NC shows. Both promoters have different kinda of shows, and it's worth it to get to both if you can. The Columbia show in November was an excellent show, with a good selection of vendors.

I haven't worked in the shows for several years, since I moved to Henderson county, NC. You can't go wrong anymore - both shows are entirely worth going to.
