In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

cleaning ans sanitizing... what do you use???? any strange husbandry techniques?

personally i use bleach most of the time... i also from time to time use rocal. we here are very anal about the possibility of cross contamination so we have a very strict cleaning and husbandry regimen. a spray bottle of alcohol is always presenbt to disinfect hands as well as latex gloves when treating anyone with a wound, illness and also when probing. we have our hemos and tweezers in alcohol when not being used and disinfect our hooks after each use....

just picked up virusan

I just bought virusan from proexotics, it was shipped fast. It seems to work great. I use it for my snakes, frogs & gecko cages. There is no strong odor & it does the trick. This stuff is supposed to be vet recommended and I have no reason to believe otherwise. Check it out.

I have used virosan exclusively in my snake room for about 2 years. The gallon of concentrate goes a long way. I even use it in my clorox spray mop to do the floors. I have had no ill effects or problems since using it.

Cleaner

I have been using Nolvasan for about 10 years. Since then I have not encountered any viral or bacterial diseases in my collection. It's also very good for healing minor cuts or scrapes. One gallon lasts me about 2 years and I maintain over 100 animals.

Nolvasan(chloahexiderm) or bleach with.......

WhenI use bleach as a disinfectant I always follow it with an Amquel rince to detoxify the bleach.

Viscon all the way, you can tell it works when you boa goes poo and then you spray the cage and it elimates the oders.

where can you get Nolvasan is its concentrated form? iv looked everywhere i can think... maybe im just mssing it? i have heard great things about it but have yet to use it... the only problem with rocal is you have to rinse it VERY well, it can be toxic if not diluted enough and not rinsed well .... it comes vet recomended but like i said it does have some drawbacks

I get mine from my vet for $30 a gallon of concentrate. 1 gallon lasts me a couple of years and I have a large collection.

I also get the Nolvasan/Chlorohexadine from my vets office. I buy the generic form which is of course the same thing, for $22/ gallon I believe it is. It's been awhile since I've had to buy any, so that could be off a bit. I do buy it though my normal (dog/cat) vet, and not the reptile vet...

Mixing Virosan

Does everyone here use a 1 part Virosan solution and 2 parts water for disinfectant purposes? Anyone used moreor less Virosan per water?

Sam Leam

I don't know what I was thinking. I meant 3 oz per 1 gallon? Anyone use anymore virosan than that to do anything special, treating wound, etc.

I use bleach. I use it in my cages for reptiles, and rodents. I use it all over my house. I love it. They even have scented bleach now.

Haven't used bleach on a regular basis for a few years. If I do, it is for a major inside/out cleaning on a cage that will be cleaned, rinsed, aired, etc.

Simple Green has worked VERY good for us. Although the scent can get a little nasty when working in an enclosed area. It dissipates quickly, and requires little rinse.

I've used chlorohexidine in the past... But haven't ordered any since my last bottle ran out. Simple Green has been doing the trick just fine.
