In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have just got my first shipment of frozen rodents in...and i have no clue on how to go about thawing them and also resealing the plastic so they do not go bad.  If someone can just help me out on this one...

Rudy

You can just set them out on a paper towel to thaw if you're in no hurry. I usually thaw mine in warm water which is much quicker.
You can get the large gallon size ziploc bags to store them in so you can reseal the bag each time.
  Good luck,
    Chris

Well, if you're going to buy a bunch of frozen mice at one time.... you might want to think about getting your own shrink-wrapping machine.... that way, you can do each mouse separately so they won't get freezer burn by the time you get to the last couple of mice....

Thawing them is very easy.... if you have them loose, just wrap them in plastic wrap (if they've already been separately shrink-wrapped, leave it in the wrapping) and put the mouse in a large bowl of hot water, and put something on top so it stays down in the water.... it will take about 30 minutes for it to thaw that way.... let it drip most of the water off, and feed it out....

Piece of cake....

Neil, that's a good idea buddy!  A little complicated if you were like me and feeding out, say 40-50 rodents at a time(sorry, but I don't wanna go wrapping and shrink-wrapping each of the 300-500 rodents in my freezer at any given time, then unwrapping them to feed;) ), but a great idea for the people with smaller collections.

Also the hot water seems to be pretty much what everyone uses to thaw their rodents.  I use it and depending on the size of the food item, it could be as little as 10 minutes(pinky and fuzzy mice) to as much as an hour(jumbo rats).  But if I'm in a hurry, I will put a screen cover over the rodent container(in my case a large rubbermaid tub) and just continuously run piping hot water over them.  In this way I can have my entire meal plan thawed out in about 15-20 minutes as opposed to the usually 1-2 hours it takes just doing one dunking in hot water.

And as a sidenote...DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE MICROWAVE!!!!!

Awwww...  C'mon Rob, they may not be as much fun as a two pound kielbasa but the popping and sizzling is so entertaining...

Well guys I appreciate you helping me out on this one.  I think you guys did a great job of summing it up for me and I believe it will be no problem from here on out.  Thanks again for all that went of their way to answer my post.

Putting the mice in the microwave not only sounds like it would be entertaining but it seems as though it would be the fastest way to thaw them out as well.  I will be getting back to you guys on my first expirience with radiating a mouse.

Thaw them out... Turn them inside out... Set them on fire... All sorts of fun things can happen.  Just make sure you have extra for the snake sitting in some warm water while you nuke others for your own entertainment...

I know a fun trick involving a vacuum cleaner and a pan of gasoline if you want to try it...

I just set them outside, on the front patio/porch in the sun for a little while, and it seems to work fine for me. Of course I am in Florida so we have lots of sun/heat pretty much year round. :D :D

I use a 100 watt lightbulb to thaw out my feeder rodents. It works quite well and only take half the time as hot water. As an added benefit your not left with dripping wet rodents.
Just make sure you flip them once to ensure an even warming process and don't oveheat them.

Jackie.... I've also found that if you put them in the oven at 300 degrees for about 30 minutes.... they come out nice and crispy outside, and moist and tender inside! YUM! They go great chopped up in your Egg Foo Young!! The OTHER white meat!.... lmao

Neil,
I like mine with a little Tabasco and a frothy beverage on the side!

Seriously though, the technique works great as long as you don't overdue it.

mice vacuum packer (under 20 bucks,U.S.)

mice vacuum packer (under 20 bucks,U.S.)

These units work very well and are reliable.
Keep all your opened vacuum packed bags of frozen mice, vacuum sealed in a jar!

"Pump and Seal vacuum food saver is the only vacuum packing food system that uses ordinary zipper-locking (freezer) bags (not special FoodSaver bags) and ordinary glass jars as food storage containers.

The Pump N Seal food saver vacuum sealer works by permanently vacuum packing food in a commercial strength vacuum, using the same jar and lid hundreds of times.

The Pump N Seal permanently seals many food storage containers including ordinary, used food product jars and lids, canning jars...It is also a vacuum bag sealer.

The "Tab-Chek" that is necessary, is a tiny patented reusable check-valve that is applied, like a band-aid, over a hole you punch in a jar lid (punch is provided).
One Tab-Chek allows a jar to be vacuum sealed hundreds of times."

These are mighty handy little units for frozen mousee maintenence.
Keeps that evil freezer burn at bay.

Basic unit Under 20 bucks delivered with 50 tabs.

The instant Meat marination accessories also available are handy to have, nothing like well marinated mice. Manufacturers site, starting at 14.95

Cheapest price I've found is 11.95 plus shipping for the basic unit set-up

A very easy way to keep them frozen bulk order feeder mousees fresh until used.
A "Tab-chek"-ed liter/ Gallon Pickle jar, (bleach deoderized), works very well for an easy to get in and out of, vacuum packed micee storage vault.

DONT USE HOT HOT WATER

I found out the hard way if you use to hot water to thaw the mice out that when you snake hits the mouse or rat that the guts and stuff comes out and then you have a mess to clean up. oh yea, dont use the microwave(another mess to clean).

Packers are in the playoffs!!!!!! (wtf mate?)

Pop them into your dishwasher while you wash your pans. Then you'd have "squeeky" clean and warm mice

-set them on your radiator to thaw (if you heat your house)
-put them in the dryer with your whites
-sit on them while you watch "Friends" or "The Simpsons"
-set them on your engine block and drive to the quick-mart for a soft pretzel
-before you go out on a fancy date, you could stuff your bra with them.. impress the man and feed the snakes/lezards boom baby!
-take a warm shower with your micicles
-watch Pirates of the Carribean with them. One look at J. Depp and Orlando Bloom gets me all steamy, bet it'll work for mice too.
-roast them over an open campfire for that yummy smoke flavor
-fry them up with your mornings bacon... mmm crispy
-stick them next to your napping hubby/wifey... they don't need to nap when there's work to be done! So make their nap work to defrost the mices!

or on a more practical level... put them into an empty jelly jar and let it float in hot water or run hot water over the jar (I used to use ziplocks but they leak and I hate throwing them away, reausable jars are more earth friendly)
