    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I previously posted the question about the turtle. Since then, this girl took it upon herself to "spur of the moment" buy a box turtle from the pet store.

I cannot belive she did this when the last turtle she got from there died and she said she would never buy from there again. And on top of that, a total of three turtles have died in her possesion in under 3 months.

So, less than 48 hours later, Mr. Skidmark is showing serious signs of respiratory infection. I had to tell her to, and go with her to the vet. She then received shots and directions on a high Vitamin A diet and cod liver oil every two days.

Now, two days after the visit to the vet, he is barely eating. Skidmark will only eat broccoli and very small amounts of it. Refused carrots, bok choy, romaine lettuce, all the things the vet said she needed to feed him.

Now, I already understand that she should not have bought this turtle without thourogh inspection. I am sure he was showing sighs of the infection then...infection takes a long time to develop.
The only way she noticed it is that she bought a care book, and when she got to the illness part, she looked.

So, what could it be causing him not to eat? Is it a reaction from the shots? Or the stress from the vet? I am worrying for this turtle, because the other three refused to eat just before they died.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

i dont really know much about turtles but i have a small stack of care books and one of them says that not eating is a symptom of the respratory infection, and other suggestions, maybe it would be more comfortable out side if you live in a proper location that will provide enough heat and humidity and all that. another book suggests that hibernation could be a problem wiht not eating and all, it says that if its not warm enough that the turtle might loose its apatite. that same book says to make sure that its surroundings are clean. sometimes it wont touch the food if its too dirty. my personal suggestion would to be setting the food out and walk away for a couple min. my turtle sometimes doesnt liek to eat in front of me and will just stare at me untill i leave him alone.
you shuodl probably ask your vet about it too. maybe they will have some advice.
