    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

hello all :)

my neighbor knows i enjoy snakes. he came over yesterday and asked me if i know of anything that repels snakes. he goes on to tell me his sister-in-law just bought a house with huge acreage in Missourri (sp) and that her acreage is riddled with rattlesnakes. i am not familiar with the herps found in Missourri, so i dunno if they are really rattler's or are just garter snakes. nevertheless, anyone know of a safe repellent of snakes. otherwise i think her husband will be killin a lotta innocent snakes :(

thanx for any help! --- Derek.

The best strategy is usually low-impact non-chemical. Snakes are in an area because the area is ideally suited to snakes... it means there's plenty of cover, lots of food and access to water and ideal temperatures. For something like rattlers (if they actually are rattlers, they could be), it's just a matter of some time and effort clearing up debris (broken down anything, wood piles, old stone walls, chunks of half rotted plywood) that might be harboring them, eliminating potential rodent food (get scatterless bird feeders) and keeping the grass cut back far enough that you can see any snakes before stepping on 'em.

If he wants to keep the land in a more wild state (some people do, it encourages small game species) then he'll just have to choose... rattlers or the hanta virus.

One product that works is Vodka, if you put it in a spray bottle, and spray it at the snake, it will neither bite nor attack. I use this whenever i get bit, just dont put it in a wound lol. I hope i helped.

Not that it matters but it is illegal to kill rattlesnakes in Missouri. They just need to do what was already mentioned in a previous post to deter the snakes. As far as keeping them away, I don't think it is 100% possible to do that. If someone chooses to live in the country, then they have to put up with snakes.

I don't know if this will really help, but she can try contacting people from the Kansas City Herp Society for their assistance. There are a lot of snake-loving members in the Independence/Belton/KCMO area.
