    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Can someone tell me why my FL king snake might have blurry blue eyes and why he always goes under his water bowl

OK....I was just kidding about the "rare snake" thang!.......But he is going to shed...he is!... I checked my crystal ball...HONEST!

Quite a few snakes only come out at night. His waterbowl is his 'hide' where he feels secure. Snakes hunt at night because in the wild, that's when the mice, frogs, and other food are out.

ok thanks, can you tell me what all i am able to feed my FL king snake, besides lizards and mice ?

depends on it's size. Don't feed it anything larger around than it's middle. It may be large enough for pinky rat....other than that, I wouldn't feed it anything else, mice and rats are a sufficient diet in captivity.

Jennifer is right!....but don't expect it to eat while it is shedding wait until it is done, then offer it the food, but if it's alive don't leave it in there with out you being present! If it dosen't eat after a couple of minutes remove the mouse/rat and try later. (unless of course the mouse/rat is dead)

my question was never answered though...what can he eat besides mice and lizards and rats.......hes about 24" long

Ahhhhh...That covers it pretty well?
In general any small enough rodent or baby rodent, any small enough lizard or other snake...and MAYBE amphibians?

I would be careful feeding it anything other than F/T mice or rats.

Lizards are okay, just more expensive, and they tend to make kingsnakes dependant on lizards...unless you have a good, cheap and reliable supply of lizards, I wouldn't feed them to your snake.

Amphibians are probably okay, if it will eat them, however there are definitely some species that may be toxic to your snake.
American Toads (Bufo americanus) are the most widely distributed toad in the US. It's what comes to mind for most people when they think of a toad. These are definitely toxic and can make your snake very sick. Marine Toads (Bufo marinus) are not a species native to the US, but have been introduced in various areas, either through pet release or accidental importation. These are absolutely deadly...they will kill dogs, snakes, even humans.

Kingsnakes are naturally immune to the venom of all North American venomous snakes, but NOT to these animals. I would probably refrain from feeding ANY amphibians to your snake unless you have 100% identified them and have researched if they are safe.
