• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

How much is TOO much when you are looking at the forums list?

I am having trouble getting this site to look the way I want it to. The problem is that I like to compartmentalize things and it appears that this message board software only goes so far in that direction. Yes, I can make as many categories/subcategories/forums/subforums as I want, but there is no easy way to clearly identify them once you drop below a simple category/forum/subforum type of structure.

This becomes readily apparent when you go into the snake and lizard discussion forums and look at how the subforums for the photo galleries for each forum are displayed. Real hard to tell what is going on, now isn't it? What I had hoped I could get was much like you see from the main forum page of this site where the forums are displayed with a small section within the description of the forum displaying a list of the subforums.

What is also confusing is that the Business and Classifieds Section is actually a forum where posting is disabled, since vBulletin doesn't have the capability to have a REAL subcategory. So all of the forums in that section are actually listed as being subforums. I guess it looks OK, but it is not what I had in mind.

As far as I can tell, the only way to fix this problem is by expanding the main forum page. In other words, eliminate the following subcategories:
  • Classifieds and Business Section
  • General Discussion Forums
  • Snake Discussion Forums
  • Lizard Discussion Forums

and have the forums contained in those sections all listed within the main broad category of Reptiles and Amphibians.

But would that be better or worse then what we have now?

One alternative would be to break the Reptiles and Amphibians category into two categories:
  • Reptiles and Amphibians - Classifieds (including the BOI)
  • Reptiles and Amphibians - Discussions

It would still produce more text that will fill the screen then we now see, but maybe that would be a logical compromist to having them all simply listed in the one broad category.

I don't know, maybe I can throw this problem to my programmer and see what he can come up with. But for now, this is what I am pondering as a solution. Any thoughts?

That would be good. If you eliminated the discussion subcategories and made one with all the discussion forums (snakes, lizards etc.) it would make the main page look a little cleaner. Also I would separate the classifieds and discussion forums.

  • Reptiles and Amphibians – Classifieds
  • Reptiles and Amphibians – Discussions

The reason I would do that is people might post help questions in the classifieds and classifieds in the forums. They should have there different areas. Just a thought.
