In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I went over to the cage and supply classifieds earlier. Out of all the classifieds , the highlights really stand out on that forum- lime greens, purples, and so on. Definitely flashy.

There's so many ads highlighted in the caging/supply section, I find myself looking for ads that aren't highlighted... Too much of a good thing really gets to be... too much!

I'm looking for painless ways to get this site operating more into the black. Having advertisers pay $1 to have their ads highlighted seems like a reasonable way to do that. I felt this was preferrable to an across the board membership fee.

I might have brought this up before, but is there a way to have the ads highlighted but still be on the main list..?...so the ad gets bumped down when a new ad is placed? Might be a way to get rid of the blocks of different colours all bunched together?

The highlighted ads are no longer grouped together at the top of the classified ads forum they are in. They are free floating just like any other ad that is posted. However, once an ad is highlighted, the owner of the ad can bump it to the top as many times as he/she cares to for the entire 30 days it is highlighted.

So the arrangement of highlighted ads will change as often as everyone makes it change. New ads will push the older ones down, and bumping will bring them back up to the top in the order they are bumped. I specifically had a choice of 6 highlighting colors to try to mix it up a little bit to keep the page from being overwhelmed with all of the same color highlighting. Maybe this wasn't the best choice? Would more subtle colors be better then the ones I have selected? I can change them if I need to.

Bumping in itself was something I wasn't sure about implementing due to the likelihood of abuse. But I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. If it does get overly abused, then it will be taken away. But for now, I wanted to have some extra incentive for advertisers to spring for that $1 highlighting to wring it out and see how it works.

Ah - I need to pay more attention to the classifieds, then. Doh!

Oh..btw....go to bed, WS! It's practically time for you to get up.

I like the highlighting but on my computer the colors are extemely vivid. But what counts are the people who buy the advertising, and the people who respond to those ads. My observations were not criticisms and I am glad for the extra income for Fauna. Perhaps......we could have...yes! a poll! lol to see what the people involved think would sell best.
Maybe?
PS I love my hot pink LH forum, please never change that.

I totally understand. I purchased an ad highlight in the boa section, and sold the snakes within 2 days. Good deal.

Maybe it would be good to have a quota on the number of allowed highlights per section? Increase the price to highlight an ad? Decrease the period of time the ad is highlighted?

Just thoughts...

maybe a decrease in the number of colors offered to highlight? I don't know how many there are now, but maybe just 3 or 4 colors would be enough?
