• Responding to email notices you receive.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

ok is it just me or is the new format slow?

Initial feedback from some people, and my impression as well, is that the upgrade is actually faster loading then the old system.

This site is pretty intensive, though, and that does take its toll on bandwidth.

I've already got a pretty hefty server that this site is running on, so beats me what the heck I'm going to do when we outgrow it......

On dial up here and I have to admit it's been going a little quicker than it used to. Only takes me just under 2 minutes to fully load the main index page (if I have cold packs on the modem, I grease up the phone line, and I switch the power supply to 220v for a few seconds).

Zippin' right along......

Hah! Don't tell Comcast, but if they came to me and told me that I either had to pay DOUBLE what I am now paying for cable modem service or I would have to go back to dial-up, I would pay it without blinking an eye.

I could just see me having to download 400 megabyte backup files over the modem....... :bandhead0

Well Robin, you know what that means… it’s time to upgrade. ;)

I’m right there with ya’ Rich. Once you experience a cable connection going back to dial-up is not an option. 400 megs! That would be impossible with dial-up…

I did get a message a couple days ago telling me that the server was too busy to load the index and to try again later. I suppose it was just the number of users on at the time and haven't noticed anything else loading any slower or faster but...

Given the way the system logs a user in and the new posts function, that was kind of rough, as I tried and successfully loaded the index about ten minutes later and was told there were no new posts (the previous visit should have had several pages worth, as I hadn't viewed the website in about twenty four hours).

The only "slow" problem I have is with typing. Whenever I type a message, I tend to type ahead of the computer screen, but then again, I seem to have strange problems on my mac that no one else has even though I am on cable 24/7. Oh well. It's suck up the slowness, or stop coming to the site, and well that just isn't an option.
