In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What size cages and what type do you have to work with?

I used Mercury Vapor bulbs for the heat and UVB with an additional Desert 10 florescent for added UVB, a ton of silk vines draped all in the cages and a live ficus as well.

Some people prefer a heat source and UVB as seperate units, like a ceramic heater and a florescent tube UVB but I find the ceramic heaters were harder to use for my needs with the chameleons.

Only use supplements a couple of times a week, they do not need the supplements as much as other species, I use them on Sat and Wed only.

ok this is the cage its a wooden 6 ft by 4 ft by 2ft but the cage part is only 4ft high 4 ft wide and 2ft deep and its split in two one side for male and other for female. im not sure if i should buy a 4ft light strip with the reptisun 5.0 or should i buy two 2 footers im not sure i need input thanks

That would be personal preference really, I would look in your area and see what the cost factor is for both with the fixtures and replacing bulbs every 6 months, the 2" would be easier to buy online than the 48" since they are smaller and would cost less in shippng. I use the florescent tubes on the Jax and the desert 8 slimlines on my veileds.

You need to decide if you want a mister too or if you want to hand mist them 3 - 4 times a day and a dripper system.

yeah im making a mister system this weekend and ive decided on the lights im going to get 1 3 foot strip that holds 2 bulbs so it all work out good

Sounds like a good plan!!

I like hand misting but I do have habba misters, if I had a chance to do it over Id go with a more professional mister system to cut back on hand misting!

I hope you find something you like!

yeah i made mine tonight i just used a bug strayer 1 G and it all worked perfectly i bought new misting tips and with a washer they are monted in my cage they look realy clean there is 2 heads per cage and its all linked to a 1g thing its great cost only 25 bucks and about 30min of time WHAT KIND OF HEATING BULBS SHOULD I USE WOULD IT BE GOOD TO GET ONES THAT DONT GIVE OFF LIGHT SO THAT THEY CAN STAY ON ALL DAY AND NIGHT OR WHAT SHOULD I DO THERE?

The mister sounds great, I need to build one before I haev all my spring babies.

You could go with a ceramic heater but as for leaving it on at night, make sure you have a day/night temp drop. You can usually just cut the heat off at night since rooms temps are normally high enough at night.

It would save money to have the ceramic heater with the florescent lights instead of a UVB with heat.

Here is a pretty good care sheet for the day night temps.

my house does not stay room temp at night but what i was thinking is using a infered heat lamp with th reptiesun 5.0 and at night ill turn one lamp off and have the other one in the middle of the two cages since its 1 big one tht is split into two this should work fine i was told you have to use a uvb light?

if i was going to use 2 differant types of heating bulbs what should i use during the day since it wont matter if it produces light and ill jsut use the infered one at night

You do need UVb but some UVb produces heat too, mercury vapor and active UVB bulbs produce heat and UVB

You could use the infered in the day time something like a 100 watt and at night a 40 watt red or blue. The watt you will need really depends on the temps in the room they are in during the day and night, also remember that the cooler it is in the room the harder it is to keep the humidity up.

My home is generally 72 day time in the winter and I use a 160 watt mercury vapor about 12" above the top of the cage, you can raise the bulb to create lower cage temps or lower it closer to the cage to get a higher cage temp.

You could also use a thermostat to control the bulb heat output and use only 1 heat bulb that way, just adjust the temp higher for daytime and lower it at night.

PS the florescent bulbs produce no heat so leave your UVB on 12-14 hours a day and and either go the infered day time and just a lower watt at night.

with a ceramic heater, it will last much longer than a heat bulb and hook it up to a thermostat which you can control the heat, it wll cost more at first but last much longer than the heat bulbs.

whats the differences from a red infered bulb and a ceramic heat bulb ? pro's or con's? yeah ill look into a thermastat but i woul need one that you can hook 2 lights too and controll them evenly thanks..

There are infered glass bulbs and ceramic heaters

Infered Heat Bulb Glass

Ceramic heater
http://reptiledirect.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=595

Thermostat to control more than 1 unit
http://reptiledirect.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=942

Rheostat to control more than 1 unit
http://reptiledirect.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=597

OK the infered glass bulb is much cheaper but as bulbs do they burn out as you have to buy more, I have ceramic heaters that Ive had for over 2 years that are still in use.

Glass heat - cheaper but you have to keep buying more as they burn out and you really need to have 1 extra all the time to use when it does burn out

Ceramic heater - more expensive, last longer but they can get very HOT so you need to control them with a thermostat or rheostat

Those may not be the best prices, that is just the place I have built up a good relationship over the last couple of years and they have always made me happy! SO it was easy for me to give you examples from that site.

ok depending on how much a get a pair of jacksons for will deturmin weather or not i get the ceramic or glass i mean its 20 bucks more and im going to get a thermostat ether way its just easier but thanks for all of you help

No problem, the $121 shipped sounds very good, Ive seen them for anywhere from $80 a pair plus shippnig and way way up from there so that sounds like a good deal.

It could be beacause of the weekend, there are not many shows in my state but some states have them quite often and some breeders travel to different states for their shows too.

If you don't have any luck try
http://herpbreedingresearch.com/lizards.htm go to item #8, email Ray, he is a really nice guy and usually has pairs for $80 plus shipping

thanks for some reasin they dont look the same and the invierment is not realy tropical im not sure though the colors also were not the same as pics i have seen thanks though
