    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

First off, someone getting a yearly membership does not give them a "get out of jail free" card here. You can still be suspended and fined, and you will still get warning points. If you pay a $250 membership fee and get suspended and fined, you STILL owe the fine. If you choose not to pay it, you do NOT get your membership fee back. Your clock will still be running while you are suspended.

Secondly, I suspect there will be a dramatic increase in messages that SHOULD be in the BOI, or classified ads posted in discussion forums in order to bypass the paid membership restriction for posting in those sections. Whereas in the past, such threads were just moved to the correct forum whenever possible, that will end. Such threads will simply be deleted and the person posting them assessed appropriate warning points.

Aw heck. The original icon was a custom hack before the latest upgrade, which included that link. This newer one is something that can be done internally within this software, but the linking capability is not there. Soooo, looks like I need my programmer to implement another custom hack for this part of it.........
 
After the switch, what will be the default level for those who have already contributed towards membership and how will this be determined. I am not sure if this has been addressed, Im sure it has and I'm just blind :D
 
I am planning on upgrading everyone who is now a contributor to the Benefactor level. The only problem is that I'm not sure about an easy way to do this without just doing it manually for each member :erm:

I had planned on upgrading everyone to the Endowment level, but when I got that hare brained idea to tag free website hosting along with it, that would be a real problem for me to honor for free. And there really isn't that much of a difference between the two highest levels except the status symbol. But tell you what, if EVERYONE, not just MOST people agree to not hold me to the free hosting, I will be glad to upgrade you all to the Endowment level instead.

If I had had a crystal ball that worked, I would have seen that I really should have made up another special category and called it the Charter Members. But heck, I can't think of everything.....
 
Well we're already set on hosting, so you need not worry about us hitting you up for the included hosting. Too bad I can't speak for everyone....

I hereby state that I will not hold you to the free web hosting if you give me red coins. :smokin:

AND... if everyone does not agree to this for you, if you upgrade me manually, I hereby state that not only will I not hold you to the free web hosting, but I will step up my existing policy of emailing interesting people on kingsnake privately and telling them about fauna. :no_evil01 :D
 
No worries here~ I have a web host already (I hate them, but hubby seems pretty well anamored!)

But you may not want to upgrade to all those nifty red coins as all the people already whining that they think your in it for the money (yeah~ I know~ you really needed the quarter an hour you'll be making right?!?) Anyway~ all those people will begin assuming that you scored $250 from us all.

Yeah, good point. And I didn't think of it that way.

And there is another wrinkle. What about those people who have PAID for the Endowment level membership? One has already. Will my upgrading all of the Contributors to that level look like a slap in the face to him?

Jeez, Louise! Nothing I ever do is simple with no complications involved..... :kaboom:

No sweat - Do what you think is best for Fauna.
I have made it very clear in past posts that I feel strongly about this site and will do whatever I can to support it.

As far as the Endowment Membership is concerned, it was a no-brainer for me. The price of the Endowment Membership is essentially the price of hosting on many lesser servers. I have been hosted by FaunaNet for over a year and it's an excellent value. The features and benefits of FaunaNet are well worth the price of the membership.

Of course, if you feel the need to give something back, that 5th spot on the Fauna Good Guy Certification Forum would be very nice.

Just a thought - do whatever you feel is best and I will support it.
 
From what I have seen, Mike is the one who purchased the Endowment. I find him exceptionally mature and a team player, I do not think he had anything in mind but supporting Fauna when he took that step, and I feel he will see his purchase as part of the team effort for Fauna.
 
how about when your time is up you have the option (just like now) of picking one of the levels, if you can afford a higher level go for it if you cant stay with what you have if you cant affoid anything and have over 500 posts its kinda a freebie. it's a yearly subscription plan, right?
 
A suggestion

I have to agree with Joe, the new icons are a bit overpowering.
Personally, I think the color is fine, but the enlarged size is a bit much.
I think it would have a much classier look at about 1/2 the current size.

opinions?

Well heck, they look fine on my monitor! Of course it is a 21 inch screen at 1600x1200 pixels..... :)
 
I am on a 19 inch at 1024x768 and they are quite big.
