Imperfect
I'm so excited about it being breeding season. This year I have some serious plans for my kingsnakes.
I have 2 male california kingsnakes, 6 females, 1 male desert king, 1 female appalachicola king, and 1 female az mountain king. A difficult mixture!
(there are younger snakes in my collection, but those aren't part of my discussion of breeding).
Last weekend i was going to wake up my snakes, but let it go another week. So far I have three snakes awake, and the rest are not soon behind.
I'm still not sure which way I'm going to go with breeding, but my current plans include the following tentative plans:
High White California King x Hypo(ish) banded cal king
High White California King x Desert Phase Cal King
Aberrant Banded Cal King x Newport Phase Cal King
Aberrant Banded Cal King x Albino Aberrant banded cal king (maybe)
Desert King x Aberrant Banana
Desert King x Aberrant Banana (I put them together and she was so glad to have him for dinner.... too bad I wouldn't let her have her meal!)
Since the unfortunate loss of my male AZ mountain king (unless he shows up again) I will consider breeding my AZ mountain king by my jurassic milk. But I am more likely to let her go another year unbred. She's beautiful, and I may never breed her!
I'm also considering crossing my albino cal king female with my jurassic milk male. He's pretty tiny though, I would be afraid she'd slurp him up like a spaghetti noodle.
My apalachicola female had such beautiful babies in '03. I really really want to breed her again, but I have had no luck finding an apalachicola king to breed her to. *sigh* I will have to try harder! I won't breed her to any of my other snakes. Next year, or the following year, I might cross her to my brooksi/eastern cross, just to see what I get, but I will try hard to get a male apalachicola king first.
And then there are the corn snakes...
