    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Howdy,

It always seemed that I either clicked just before or just after my Panther hit its target. This time I got really lucky. I guess its my "money shot."!

Howdy,

I'm using the Canon EOS Digital Rebel. It's a digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) with a 6.3MP sensor. The Typical Digital Rebel "kit" is with the 18-55mm lens. The price is coming down these days since Canon released the 20D. The Digital Rebel kit with an EXTRA battery at Costco is about $770 (might only be at their online store now.) That's a decent price (I bought mine there when it was $950!) If you're made out of money and have a taste for a really good digital cameras, get the 20D for about $1500. If I had excess bucks (but who does?) I'd buy it in a second. Everyone that I've talked with loves it. Many people say that Canon's high-end digital cameras have the best image quality in that price range. My brother bought the Canon 1DS Mark II for a mere $8000 a few months ago! But he's in the "business" of perfection etc. See www.weldoncolorlab.com for what he does for a living...

The bottom line is that I've only figured out how to use half of the features that the camera has to offer, but some of the important ones are being able to go to manual focus (gotta have SLR for that!) and having full control over shutter speed and F-stop to tune the depth-of-field focus range, not to mention having 6.3MP to be able to crop a large shoot area (you never know where the action will be sometimes) and still have lots of resolution in the cropped shot. If I had zoomed in for that shot, I'd have given up any depth-of-field and the slight angle of the cham-to-prey would leave something out of focus for sure. Oh, the automatic features are great too! I used them for quite a while until I got the hang of it. If you go to http://photoworkshop.com/canon/ and look under the Digital Rebel tab, there is a tutorial that shows lots of good stuff about using this type of equipment.

Aren't you glad that you didn't ask for anything more detailed than "what kind of camera?"

Howdy,

UPdate: I just saw that Canon announced their Digital Rebel XT! It's still below the 20D but it has smoe great new enhancements including 8.0MP. List price without a lens or extra battery is $900. I'm sure that deals will be popping out fast.

WOW, lots of good info. I'm in the market for a good cam but money is a little harder to come buy right now. I was thinking more in the $400 range but if I half to cough up $800+ to get what I want than it will take a while longer.

I have a Fuji Finepix s5100 and I really like it. It was about 400 w/ extras and 4.23 MP. There are also lenses you can buy sepeatly, and it has a 40X zoom.

oh yea.. nice shot. :raspberry

Howdy,

Here is an example of zooming in on the tongue afterwards in Photoshop. That kind of photo needs to be shot without any optical zoom otherwise you'll loose depth-of-field during the initial shot. I was set at 18mm (no zoom) which allows me to have a couple of inches of DOF. I used manual focus to set an estimated focal point where I guessed the center of the action would take place. The bug isn't the sharpest focal spot but not bad either for a guess.

Aren't you glad there are not any 1500lb chameleons hunting out there!
