Joe, I thought ball pythons were illegal to keep in n.y.c.? I'm not accusing you of anything, so don't take this question the wrong way, I was just curious because someone told me that lately and I was wondering if you could clear it up for me. Thanks!

This was probably over the last few years when, although my friend at the NY Herptological association wrote most of the laws, the law-pushers fumbled it and only included boidae as a whole...
which would indicate sand boas, ball pythons, spotted and childrens pythons were all illegal.
What they actually wanted was to prevent a child from going into a store and buying an animal that can reach 8-12 feet in length in it's first year or two and potentially cause harm to the inexperienced keeper.

With the latest ammendmenst, what is illegal are the venemous snakes, Burms, African Rocks, Indian Pythons, Retics and Anacondas. Not Boas or Balls or any other subsepcies of each that don't reach excessive lengths.
