Imperfect
My kings are starting to do the "herky jerky" dance, and I'm having FUN! Of course Hubby was home sick from work one day and he decided to get the kings started breeding without consulting me, so there are a number of crosses I had specifically planned for thiss year that will have to wait until next year! (ARGH... thanks dear).
Some of the crosses that now appear to be on the agenda for this year:
My desert phase female cal king (a MONSTER in size) who I planned to cross to my high white was instead crossed to my aberrant banded desert phase male. They should still have beautiful babies, as they both have very white white!
One of my aberrant "banana"-colored females is now crossed to my high white male.
I had thought to try to cross my albino female cal king with my het albino "rootbeer" corn, but she only wanted to eat him, even though he was more than twice her size. So instead I crossed her to my high white who is possible het for albinism and this will answer that possibility once and for all.
My newport female and my light chocolate (hypo?) and lemon colored female just shed, and I'm still trying to decide who to put her with. The number of males I have is limited. My only other male kingsnake has tried to eat every girl I've put him with! Hopefully he figures it all out. My poor males are going to be overworked this year, with 5 out of six of my females all ready at almost the same moment!
It will be an interesting year for cal king clutches!
And for those who noticed my absence.... Had a publishing deadline, 2 extra hours of work every day, auctions on ebay to raise money for surgery I had to prove I didn't have cancer, a dying computer for three weeks followed by a dead computer for a week, snakes to breed, crises to attend. It's been a HECTIC month or six weeks since I was last here. I apologize for my long absence!
