    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I am thinking about acqiuring some Eastern boxies, and I live in Michigan. I am pretty sure that it's illegal to collect wild ones in Mich, but I am not clear if it is OK to buy captive bred from another state. All the terminology (endangered, threatened, and "special concern") gets complex, and I can't find a clear explanation on the Mich DNR website. Basically, what I want to know is, would it be illegal for me to buy a CB E box that was not even born in Michigan? Ritchie
 
This may be a little late, but i live in Michigan, and I believe it is only illegal to catch them in the wild and keep as a pet. if you purchase it captive bred, even if it is captive bred in Michigan, it's fine. You just cant take em from the wild, and stores can't sell ones taken from the wild. at least im pretty sure thats what it is.

Someone else please correct me if i am wrong :p
 
Thanks, Melle. I believe you are right. Michigan laws on certain reptiles are so unclear a lot of the time. They apparently vary, according to the wind direction and the phase of the moon. lol

Yes they vary, but one thing is for sure, Easterns are not allowed as captive pets anywhere that I know of in our Great state[same for blandings and wood turtles]. But then you see them in pet stores so wada%$@& do you do, essentially keep your mouth shut if you have any,,lol. From what I recall some one saying [who..can't remember] is that Easterns are protected in the whole of thier range to some extent, this includes Gulf coast, Florida and others in the eastern group.
The bad thing is if you have any and tell someone and the story goes on you could also be the subject of a rediculous raid on your collection and then have some IDIOT expert tell you a siniloan milk is an eastern or a grey rat is a black rat, better yet all of your animals could be frozen as evidence.
Obey the law until you become involved and help change them.
