In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

hi does any body know a good box turtle breeder im looking for a breeder who breeds eastern box turtles I actually posted a wanted ad but I dont think it came up right im not looking particularly for baby turtles but if they are gonna be small they must be at least more than 4 inches long and really well started im looking for a male and female pair I use to own a male 6 years ago and was the coolest land turtle I have ever owned he had a great personality for a turtle always following me whe ever i passed his enclosure outside and loved strawberries then he was stolen.... I never found out who took and I know some one took him because the enclosure top was forcefully opened only a human could have opened it... I was so upset about it I never bought one again... but know that i have moved to a more secure area i feel more confident and have modified a better lockable enclosure hope you all can help
Many thanks,
Jose Gallegos

make sure you read up, especially if you want an Eastern boxie. A lot of wild captured adults in the pet trade are animals set in there ways. They have cycles of feeding, breeding, and hibernation. A lot of them due to the stress and climate change will die in captivity if not housed outdoors in the areas in witch they are found. An example is even though here in Florida we have eastern box turtles, if I purchased one from someplace like Kentucky , or north Carolina there is a good chance that box turtle would end up dieing with in the year. I would suggest at the least you try and get a pair of ornate boxies.

I breed florida box turtles, and live in florida. Box turtles are the best pets if you are aware of there habbits in the wild. I know you are lookin for a breeder and that is great! If you purchase a Captive born box turtle you will recive a great pet most likely for life. In my opion you wont have to much luck breeding W C eastern box turtles in calie, Good luck. I will post a care sheet that you can read up on. If you want to talk more about box turtles you can Email me or just chat on fauna. see ya

Did you ever find a good eastern box turtle breeder? I was looking for one as well and wondering if you had any success. If so, please pass on a recommendation if you have one you would recomend that is.

Thanks,
dusty

Vince,

Was interested in purchasing a Box turtle that would do well in Iowa. What would you suggest? Can you provide any recommendations on where to purchase? Do you offer a box species that would survive in Iowa?

Thanks,
Dusty

well dusty...... no and yes
no I didnt find a breeder.......but I found someone that had some available he goes by skycock and his name is Trey Bell good guy this is his website www.altiusgeckos.com he had some nice animals very healthy and yes they are wild caughts and at the risk at sounding stupid I know how many people are against that....its just that every breeder in turtle times is out of commission or just dont sell them any more adopting takes time and yes sometimes you can find perfectly healthy and all limbed turtles (not all are mutilated but some are not in the same condition as others) but some might have been rehabed and recovering or need special care plus you must have an enclosure that goes by the adopting agency regulations and pictures of your vet that specifies on turtles other than that it takes time to get any feedback but it doesnt mean you shouldnt try though im hoping to adopt soon just need to get my application processed plus its difficult to find any captive breds period let alone adults the way I see it though mostly every box turtle in the trade in auctions petshops and even adoptions are most likely wild caughts does this justify any thing? No it doesnt but its the truth I will tell you this though you could get lucky and find some captive bred babies right now or later but even they go fast they are a great choice over wild caughts but I believe with the proper care wild caughts can make great pets I would suggest you get them checked by a vet which might be nescessary for wild caughts if you do get any wild caughts just to make sure that they are ok and quarantine before adding others to your group of other boxies if you get any others I myself am partial to easterns and gulf coast (even harder to find and the first box turtle I ever saw big guys too) but keep trying and when doing so be care from who you do buy from or try to.... I recently tried to buy from some one in kentucky by the name of Thomas Mcadam and he said he couldnt ship out through services which others have used with no problem in other words this didnt sound good so I tried refunding my money but now im having issues with Thomas and paypal so just try to do some research on the people you buy from but more importantly get all the info on boxies before you get any the box turtle manual has been updated and is great resource the internet can also help and be aware of the weather in your area as well as any predators (including humans) and remember that boxies require humidity and plenty space hope any of this helped you well thanks,
Jose Gallegos

I`ve been Breeding box turtles for about 20 years. I get about 30 to 40 hatchlings a year. I keep the babies inside in a 20 gallon long. Bark sub strait and tilt the tank on a
angle put 1 inch of water down the end. Put a little house for them to hide (plastic container with a door cutout). Feed 3 times a week crikets, worms, can dog food.

I would be pretty concerned about the quality of animal you'd be receiving. Most of the ones I've seen this person Trey (skycock) selling on outlets such as reptileauction.com have all had some form of injury to limb or shell as a result of road crossing. In fact, when I asked the seller about this he did state clearly that most being sold are taken off of roads and most have some form of healed injury to the shell, plastron, or limbs. Not to say he doesn't have perfect specimens as I imagine not every one he picks up has been hit by a motor vehicle or lawnmower.

So in a sense he may helping in some eyes, and in others he's disturbing the very delicate balance of nature. Its all how you look at it I guess.

Personally? I would never ever put money in the pocket of any person who mass collects any species of wildlife that is protected in so many different areas of the US. The eastern box may be abundant in South Carolina, but throughout their areas of natural range they have been all but decimated in number. And thats from human over population and construction, not even collecting.

Its your choice obviously to do what you think is right. If the choice is for yourself, just to get what you've always desired as in this case, then you really wont care where it comes from, or what anyone thinks, so long as you get it. Its what mass collectors count on....desire and demand.

I think if you have a real love of animals you'll do what you know is right for the animals that are in your care and even those that are not in your care but in the care of mother nature. Think about it. I'm sure you wouldn't dispose of your garbage on the side of a road to effect the surrounding environment and the critters that inhabit it. So why would you pay a person to go out and remove animals that you know will contribute to an overall decline in a healthy and balanced environment?

Just my thoughts....
