Hello to everyone I had read some where keeping compost in in a box turtle pen is beneficial apperantly it attracts insects and worms for the turtles as well as creating a weak supplement heat source....is this true?? does anyone have expeirence placing a small compost heap in their box turtle pens? also I found a yellow foot tortoise on the road street red hill near a millitary base those who live in CA probably know what I am talking about well at any rate I honestly did not know it was a yellow foot at first but petstore confirmed it (prehistoric pets)... its now been a year and a half no one claimed her most likely was turned loose and she or he is quite personable and I kept her in the garage during the winter in quad plant pot meassuring 4 X 5 ft with mercury uv heat lamp and it worked but im wondering and I heard its possible to keep them outside with a strong heat source at night and day and during winter here In CA ive heard of using a plastic dog house with a pig blanket or heat lamp how do I do this? without creating a fire hazard id like to keep her outside she seems much more happier outside instead of inside the garage and the enclosure is taking to much space from my dads garage.... if not most likely this tort might be traded for more boxies from prehistoric pets or just given to a good home I really wish I could keep her... and would someone please clarify this for me can all north american boxies be kept together in a very large pen... I have a pen that is a semicircle more than 24 ft in its half circumfrence and about 9-10 ft in diameter I can make it bigger If I have to though.. and by all boxies I mean ornates easterns gulf coast and 3 toeds, many have told me you can and I have seen it done so what would I have to do to be successful.. all have said to expect hybrids if I do house them together ive also been told those are fertile too I really still dont know what to make of that...hope anyone can help and sory for asking so many things and possibly stupid questions
many thanks,
