Mike, I think that's the best kind of voter there is. A friend of mine is so dead-set on his identity as a republican, that he ALWAYS takes the "right" viewpoint just for that reason. It seems that even if he agrees with the other side, he feels the need to vote for the Republican party out of loyalty or something. I've yet to meet a politician deserving of so much loyalty that someone should be willing to sacrifice their own opinions and views on an issue.Rebel Dragons said:Let's just say there was a couple key issues that had me voting across party lines on the last election. It's funny how one little topic can swing a persons vote.
I agree with that sentiment. And I totally agree with Sammy's opinion that the system is hopelessly broken. Anyone who believes that we live in a democracy in the US has not read the constitution and has forgotten that Daddy's friends on the Supreme Court put Bush in office after the 2000 election. If that wasn't a stain on the Rehnquist court I don't know what is. Should Thomas and Scalia not have recused themselves after candidate "W" publicly praised them and their views during the campaign? Would that not have removed any hint of impropriety from that decision, arguable one of the most important facing the court at the time? Not that any of the other seven can be accused of casting their votes on anything but political grounds. Ironic that the states rightists like Scalia and Thomas voted to usurp the power of the state of Florida to conduct its recount. Not that I think the recount would have necessarily given a different result, but they should have been allowed to do so.PaulSage said:Mike, I think that's the best kind of voter there is.
