In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

A few of us have had some bad experiences with kingsnake and I would love to hear what other people think. In my opinion I would like to see faunaclassifieds change their format on the classifieds ads, and start charging a fee to post the classifieds, and hopefully take some of kingsnakes business. I would be the first to sign up.

Well first off I think the free classifieds here are fine, although paying for advertising would certainly help Rich out.  As far as kingsnake goes, I do not use them at all.  I am not really a "business", yet anyway and refuse to pay for the privilege to use kingsnake.  I would probably pay to use fauna though.  I also do not buy from ads on kingsnake, I did it once, the transaction was fine but it's a matter of principal I suppose.  I have heard enough stories from users of kingsnake to make that decision. Not that posting and ad on KS stops me from buying, I just don't look through the ads there. I do my shopping here and at a few other sites, mostly run by people who are regular posters here and have earned my respect.  I know Rich does not want to become a KS clone either.  Both sites offer a lot to people in this hobby, it's just sad to see how things have gotten over there.

Two different type of herpers, two different types of sites. Most of the people here are either more serious hobbyists or the business side of the coin. So most the ads I'll run here are for when I need to move lots or have supplies on wholesale deals. Kingsnake targets more of the arm-chair hobbyists so it's more one or two animals at a time and retail supplies. I frankly like the professional level of discussion on this site (except for a few drama threads most of this site is adult level in professionalism and allowing people to have a different opinion with out a full scale attack) and think if you changed the targeting to a more retail level visitor the discussions would also change.

Mmmmmm what would be  the politically correct  thingto put here?
Bet thats what alot of people think before they type......
In this industry or hobby(Which is what it really IS except for the brokers who are trying like hell to make a quick buck)
it seems that people always pre screen their thoughts and try to walk that "politcally correct" tightrope, getting along with everybody for their OWN gain.

Pathetic.

My opinion?

Kingsnake.com is a great idea. It could be administered better.
The classifed ads and forums have been updated, which caused confusion, both in format and in the stlye of text.
Additionaly,I have heard of people and known people that were banned from there for seemingly insignificant things. I use kingsnake.com, primarily to TRY and sell snakes, but also to take the time out to answer peoples question on the forums and bring some levity to them. The amount of proffesional breeders that post ads there has declined, I dont know if thats from the economy or the site itself. Fights on the forums arent always adminsitered in a straightforward way, meaning that if someone ipersonally insults another person on the forums or attacks their character family etc, it may take up to 2 repeat occurneces of that behaviour to get the person banned and maybe not even then. this leads to alot of trolls whose main purpose is to insult others and stir up agitation. With little to no reprecussions, they do as they please.

Fauna classifeds: Doesnt get near the amount of hits that kingsnake does. Sorry, but in my opinion it doesnt. I sincerely WISH that it did, I encourage people to post and look here all the time, and even post snakes that I have for sale that I know may be out of the price range of the majority of the people here or the skill level of the people here, just to add soemthing to this site. Ritchie is a good guy, after a brief ugly honeymoon period, I have realized what he is trying to do and how he is going about it. Fauna is FREE, which isnt the MAIN reason that I come here or post here.
Ask yourself this, wehat other site has a BOARD OF INQUIRY on it where you can publicly air diffrences?
What an awesome concept, and its HERE.
Once agin, traffic flow and familiarity is the main problem of this site, if it were more well known and freqyented by bigger breders, and if Fauna gave us more cpapbility to post pics, links and had more forums, then it would be great.

Both servers are good for diffrent reasons. Time will tell what ends up being the best...

Kingsnake is cool for volume and thats it, there are some bad stories there as I am sure some are circulating about this site
but let me ask you all this
What site can you get on and feel like Norm as he 1st walks into Cheers for the day
I know this may sound cheesy coming from me but Fauna Classifieds recognises your individuality, and treats you well
Fauna all the way

I like em both, and that is not necessarily the politically correct type of answer that Fred talked about. I like kingsnake because of the vast amount of forums, they have got something great there in that - there is no denying it in my mind. Sure you get a lot of newbie posts about 'whut du ifEed my garDer snake', but for the most part you get a lot of really intelligent postings with legitimate herp related questions. If you don't ant to be bothered with questions about Ball Pythons then stay out of the Ball Python, General and beginner forums and stick with your specialty such as in the Hognose Forum. This also have controversial forums such as the Field Collecting forum, a great one for me, but others apparently hate the idea of herp hunting. Kingsnake.com is a good system. They also have a very large number of classified sections which I also really like. I don't have to wade through a swamp of this kind and that kind before I find the kind I am looking for. In addition to offering such a wide array of classified and forum sections they offer show sections, and Herp Society sections. They know how to attract herpers as is evident because they have offered what people want - otherwise how do they attract all of their users. By attracting the herpers they also attract the advertisers and that is what keeps them in the money.

This site, faunaclassifieds could do the same, but does not. I think that has been a personal decision of the webmaster. This site does not have nearly as many forum offerings, nor does it cater at all to the new comer as far as herp care goes. There are reportedly (as implied by other users than me) more mature individuals and more serious herpers using Faunaclassifieds; and therefor a lesser chance of getting postings that are just so much bait from a poster who is out trolling. Let me tell you that from what I have seen around here, I think there is more BS, more trolling, more mamby pamby kid stuff herein that never belonged on any herp site. Sure the number of such posts at kingsnake nay be higher, but the percentage of such posts seems to be higher here, in my opinion. Sorry guys but that is what I see here when a whole forum has to be devoted to a couple of guys who can only berate one another with "you're a jerk" - "nahah you are a jerk" postings. I am no saint, in fact I am a sinner too. I have given some pretty snide remarks back to people whom I believed deserved nothing else, but mostly I post what I mean to say without gilding the lilly! Some people caanot take that kind of straight forwardness without becoming overly sensitive and hurt. A lot of us are guilty at one time or another of upsetting someone with the frankness of our answers. This however is not what I am writing about here. I think you all know what I mean when I talk about that spoecial forum that was created just for two guys to bonk one another over the head. That is a crying shame. I don't blame the webmaster, I blame the people who fan the flames.

Yet despite all of the above seemingly negative things, I love faunaclassifieds.com.  This is a great, great site also. It has free advertisements, a very good thing. It has the BOI - a good thing or so it seems when used properly. It has a General Discussions area, that is also a good thing but only sort of on this one. I say this because it is not at all a general discussions area, but one limited to topics of the herp trade. That too is ok, I just wish this site had some more topics for the forums, but I don't wish too hard and I'll explain why in a bit. I understand that expansion would be expensive to do. I appreciate that such a forum does keep some of the ridiculous 'garDer snak' questions away. There are less people using this site, and I think that makes it easier to figure who you would buy from. Richie also lets you know outright when someone who has been a past cheat is at it again using a new screen name. Kingsnake.com would not even let you post a warning about a cheat. I like it here a lot. That is why I keep coming back and have made some orders over the years from people on this site.

Now if anyone wants to see this site get bigger with: more users being attracted to this site, more of the offerings that kingsnake.com offers, more chances to sell stuff, more forums, more classifieds, fees for selling and so on - then be prepared for this site to become more and more like kingsnake.com. It would be pretty much an inevitable happening. Sure I like kingsnake.com a lot - I like faunaclassifieds just as much - but for different reasons than for those I like kingsnake. One of the greatest things about faunaclassifieds is how different from kingsnake it remains.

Those are my ramblings on the subject - I guess maybe I could just have said: I like em both. Whoops I said that already didn't I!

By the way - I too would be willing to pay for ad space if there was a per ad charge for once in a while advertisers, as well as a yearly subscription fee for large advertisers. That way I could decide to either buy a year's subscription, or just post a few ads in a year at the per ad fee.

Best regards,

Glenn

Well today I like Redtailboa.net the best because it has Fred's mugshot on it...

I don't spend ALOT of time on the PC but I've found both sites to be excellent sources in the hobby!1 Not only have I made some "friends" I've also bought and sold with no REAL HORROR STORIES. I think Fauna is a closer net group, but I've never had an animal up at Kingsnake that lasted more than a few days, so I think it gets the numbers. I've always been treated wonderfully (via email and/or conversation) from both as well. So I say "live and let live"

I had an account with kingsnake last year, sold almost everything I posted there...can't beat the exposure. However, *everything* I have posted here on Fauna so far this year has sold...and just as quickly. Being that I generally don't post all that much for sale, I'll stick with Fauna. I still cruise Kingsnake's ads because of the sheer volume, and sometimes the forum discussions are good when the trolls aren't running loose. I wish Rich had more targeted forums for general discussion, perhaps once more people join this web community he'll be able to expand.

Actually, I am planning on moving this message board system onto a better one sometime in November.  As such, I really don't want to mess with any extensive changes right now anyway.

The backup file of the database for this site is already over 32 megabytes.  The conversion is probably not going to go smooth as silk (such things rarely ever do).  The reason I want to go to a different system is because the tools it provides for me are much better than what is here.

But I would have to give it some thought.  As I said before, I don't want to be a kingsnake.com wannabe.  And I really don't want my site overrun with people asking what they should name their iguana, where should they look for the cornsnake that escaped last night, and that sort of thing.  And opening up generalized forums will unavoidably introduce those sorts of messages.

And of course, more forums would mean more time spent prowling them looking for people abusing the privilege of posting on them.

No, I REALLY don't want the bills Jeff B has to pay for bandwidth for his site.  And no, I don't want to hire people when the workload gets too much for me. I'm perfectly happy staying small time with this, getting enough advertisers to pay the bills and give me enough extra cash to think about upgrades every once in a while.  As long as SerpenCo's business can put food on the table, this can still remain a casual passtime for me.  This was never intended to even get this big.........

I love fauna and what Rich is doing with this site. I can not beleive he can keep up with it. <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>

I enjoy comming here to find the good and bad people to do business with. A friend of mine (Marc Quesada) was the one who told me about this site when he saw a good guy post on me.

I also can not say enough good things about kingsnake.com. I would sell herps sometimes within minutes when using there classifieds. I always sold my animals much faster than posting adds here. I am not saying I never sold on here, but it did take longer.
I met and still talk to some of the finest herpers in the business buying and selling on kingsnake. And I guess I am lucky also, as I have had no bad deals from any purchase,or sale on either site!

I love you both! <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Thanks to you both. <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
