In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I posted this idea in another thread, and I thought it might get better exposure in it's own, so here goes my proposal...

Would it be feasible to use the Fauna Fund to collect donations for aiding the Katrina victims? I don't know what other people's opinions are on re-opening the Fauna Fund, but I think it at least warrants asking.

Here's what I was thinking: Auctions could run just like they have in the past on the Fauna Fund, and all payments could be forwarded to a designated person, whom at the end of the auctions would submit them to a charity or relief organization voted on by Fauna members. That's just one idea, and I think that doing it that way would help cut down on paypal surcharges. Also, we might be able to set a goal and keep a running tally easier if one person is playing "bookkeeper" for all of the transactions.

Personally, my family is talking with the accountants this week to find out what we can donate together. I know some people are on a tighter budget, but maybe they wouldn't mind adding a few bps, corns, leos, etc. to their collections, especially if it's for such a good cause.

Just an idea, and I was wondering what other people's thoughts may be about it.

I have already donated about as much as I can give right now. I'm all for helping out, but it may be more direct to find a national organization like the American Red Cross and donate to them. There are food and clothing drives too, at least here in Texas. Direct aid seems faster; hopefully as surrounding government entities and local and nationwide citizens help out, there will be no one hungry or without what they need to survive.

Sorry, but no. The whole idea of this sort of thing now leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm tired of having my toes stepped on whenever I get involved in something like that.

Understood. Just thought I'd ask.

I agree with Lucille. Give cash. The big organizations do not really have systems in place for taking in and distributing "stuff" right now.

Cash donations allow the big organizations to buy food, clothing, shelter, and supplies, and also to give debit cards to displaced people to buy personal necessities.

My favorite is The United Way but there are many others.

I am raffling off prizes to people that make donations to charities for this relief effort. I am definitely willing to include anyone from this site on the list of raffle tickets if anyone makes a donation. It can be cash direct to an organization or a donation of goods, doesn't matter. If you can figure out how to tie it into mine I'm all ears. So far I have a $100 gift certificate to http://Aquascapeonline.com and 3 subscriptions of Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine. They are all fish related at this point but I am definitely willing to open it up to herps if someone has something to donate. Contact me direct if you have something to donate. Anything you want to donate must be 100% donated, including shipping. I'm doing everything I can to push this effort now, if anything can be done here or if anyone has any other places it can be posted let me know.
