In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What cage size would you go with for a 9 year old, 8ft female BCI? I want something plastic and lockable. I am looking at AP and others. Thanks!

Jamie

48 x 24 x 12-18 inches should be satisfactory for an eight foot Boa. A little more space wouldn't hurt if you have the room and the funds.

I have the room and I am taking him in for my sister's boyfriend so they are paying for all caging and food. Might as well get what is right. She has lived most of her life (9 years) in a 55 gallon glass tank and had free roam of his apartment. I dont want to cramp her too much and she wont have as much free roam at my place.

A 55 gallon tank has 36 x 12 inches of floor space? That would be 432 inches². 48 x 24 would be 1152 inches²; spacious compared to that. A 72 x 24 inch cage would give the snake (and take up!) 50% more floor space. I doubt that an adult Boa is going to use height all that much but extra height can come in handy when you are reaching in there to clean, and also will leave you more flexibility to use it for a semi-arboreal snake in the future so I would definitely opt for more height, even 24 inches if you can, knowing of course that the more volume you have, the more you have to heat it, assuming you have to use heat in south Florida. :p

Nothing you do will give it the feeling of being free roam unless of course you plan to do that too.

I have and 8 1/2 ft. male (BCC...whatever he is) in one and he does very well. Reasonably priced, easy to clean, easy to maintain temps and humidity. I order mine with 1X heat and locks.

Takes 4-5 weeks to receive once ordered, but IMO it is well worth the wait.

actually a 55gal is 48" and a 40gal is 36".

I keep my biggest ones in cages that are 96x32x18. length width heigth

How big are your biggest ones? I think an eight foot cage for an eight foot snake is a bit of overkill. That's enough room for a burm or a retic.

They're in the 10 to 12 foot range and have been in that cage, there are three of them weighing 25, 30 and 50lbs, since they were six footers.

My biggest is 9.5 foot and almost 30lbs and she is in a 48x24x24 enclosure. She does not need the height (my new enclosures are only 11 inches tall) but it is nice for cleanup. I just came from Bill Gaines place yesterday and even his biggest girls are in cages this size or slightly smaller (on the height).

Thanks to everyone for the input!! Much appreciated...

I think ill go with a 48X24X18 AP. Seems to be the best bet and I love APs products.
