HOUSTON -- A southwest Houston family wants its pet back and neighbors would probably be all-too-happy to get George off the streets. George is an 11-foot-long Burmese python.
Bryan Keithshearon lives in Sharpstown at 7022 Hendon. He said his snake, weighing 60 pounds, was last seen Thursday night before it apparently crawled out a sliding glass door.
"I didn't know he was aware enough that he could get into a crack and open it up," Keithshearon said. "I found his trails all through the grass. It's hard to believe a 60-pound, 11-foot snake can move along without being seen."
His neighbors have a hard time believing it, too.
"When he said he was looking for his pet, we assumed it was a dog or cat, but it was a snake, so it kind of freaked us out a little bit," neighbor Evette Bryan said.
Keithshearon assured the neighbors that George is gentle and not a threat to kids or pets. His favorite food is rabbits.
"We feed him anywhere between a 4- and 8-pound rabbit. A 4-pound rabbit will hold him for a week," he said.
George also loves people and likes to have his head patted.
"He's really friendly. You can actually go and pick him up," Keithshearon said.
Keithshearon hopes George is found before he hurts himself.
