    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

After 37 years in our backyard pond in the Bay Area of Northern California, our western pond turtle (Clemmys Marmorata) died. We're considering the purchase of another western pond turtle - an adult or possibly a hatchling. We are not interested in a western painted turtle.

In reading the descriptions of the available western pond turtles on this website, I'm unfamiliar with the classifications such as 1.0, 1.2, C.B., C.B.B., proven male, etc. Where can I find a table or summary of these turtle classifications/descriptions?

Secondly, how are pond turtles packaged and shipped to ensure the delivery of a live, healthy animal?

Any information would be appreciated.

I don't know much about turtles but briefly these are general terms and can apply to most living creatures:

1.2 = one male and two females.
1.0.3 = one male, no females and three unsexed.
2.1 = this is a quiz, blank males and blank females
males.females.unsexed and many times unsexed are omitted.

C.B.B = captive bred and born. The parents were bred while in captivity and offspring hatched/born in captivity also.

C.B = captive born. Could be, wild caught gravid female delivers offspring in captivity or lays eggs, C.H. captive hatched is a better description. C.B. could also mean someone harvested eggs from the wild and hatched them in captivity. I also believe some use C.B. for C.B.B. and some use C.B. for C.H., so it is always best to find out for sure what is meant by just C.B.

Proven = 1) Proven breeder, has successfully bred and produced offspring. 2) Also for a heterozygous animal after it produces homozygous offspring it is also said to be 'proven', i.e. het blue arboreal spruce turtle produces a blue arboreal spruce turtle, the het is now 'proven'.

Shipping. Buy from a reputable breeder and check them out on the BOI (on this site) for any negative feedback. They will ship in a properly insulated and packed box, shipped overnight to your door, NOT via USPS.

See http://www.arbreptiles.com/shipping/index.shtml for an excellent article on shipping reptiles.
