The reason I am asking is, I was cruising KS and saw one of their ads, for shipping they use Delta, DHL,and postal service. If I am not mistaken isn't that a federal offense? I may be wrong, and sorry if I am, but I don't think so
Yes, you are wrong. It is not a federal law against shipping anything except snakes with USPS. Lizards and turtles are just fine, but no snakes. As for DHL, or Delta dash, it is ok with any harmless reptile.rick c said:The reason I am asking is, I was cruising KS and saw one of their ads, for shipping they use Delta, DHL,and postal service. Actually, though you may get varying responses from different "offices", DHL does not ship snakes anymore. I was under the impression that lizards and turtles were out, too...but comments from some people have left me uncertain. If I didn't dislike DHL so much, I would probably check - but I do.varnyard said:Yes, you are wrong. It is not a federal law against shipping anything except snakes with USPS. But let me say this, USPS really is the worst way to ship reptiles, they are not reliable at all. Also with USPS the box must be clearly marked with the exact reptile you are shipping, that is the law.

Harald mentioned it in his post, but I wanted to highlight your post, just to make sure you (if you do ship reptiles) or anybody else is browsing and wasn't sure.varnyard said:Also with USPS the box must be clearly marked with the exact reptile you are shipping, that is the law.
The only reason this thread was started here, was FYB Exotics had 2 ads on Kingsnake for baby Redtail boas. They didn't state whether or not they also sold turtles, lizards etc. Those 2 ads lead me to believe they are sending Redtails through the Postal Service. As far as associating anyones name, they did that with their ad. As far as my knowledge on the subject of legal shipping, I know the Post Office is not on the legal list, but yet people continue to send these babies by that method. I do not know FYB Exotics, and am not trying to cause them a problem. Just wanted to bring to their attention shipping these animals this way is not legal, or acceptable.Dennis Hultman said:Hi Rick
It is just my opinion but it is better to start a thread like this one in the general business section before associating someone’s name on the BOI because you are not sure about what shipping methods are legal.
Also, in the shipping section there many threads that deals with this topic.
Did the ad mention that he would specifically ship a snake through the post office? If not, then there is nothing to be concerned over.
It is legal to ship lizards and turtles/tortoises via USPS, as long as they are labeled appropriately (again, this is Federal law and pertains to all reptile shipments regardless of carrier). It is inappropriate to post this here because there is no indication that they are doing anything inappropriate. If you had just left it as an inquiry of people's experiences with them, that would have been fine. What Dennis was pointing out is that a question about what shipping methods are appropriate/legal, belongs in the Shipping forum...where if you did a search, all these questions would have been answered on existing threads or promptly answered in a new post. you shouldn't raise red flags about a business based on your assumption...posts here are forever, and could influence potential customersrick c said:The only reason this thread was started here, was FYB Exotics had 2 ads on Kingsnake for baby Redtail boas. Never gave that a thought, if that is the case then fine, but, I am curious why this person won't speak for himself, I see the co. name at the bottom of the page. This could have been done 2 pages ago. I don't mean to go on and on about this but I believe it is a subject that needs attention. What I put in my ads represents myself and my animals.Dennis Hultman said:I agree shipping through the post office is a huge problem. My opinion on the BOI regarding this problem is well known.
Regarding the ads,
Most people have a generic signature at the bottom of all their ads and it could be they are shipping supplies and other items by the post office and not snakes.
Probably, because for the most part it really is a non issue. FYB Exotics sells all kinds of stuff, and like a lot of the other breeders/importers, especially ones who deal in a lot of volume, they put the same info or "disclaimer" on all their ads. So whether the ad is for Dart Frogs, Retics, Chameleons, Calcium, etc. it lists all the shipping methods they use.rick c said:Never gave that a thought, if that is the case then fine, but, I am curious why this person won't speak for himself, I see the co. name at the bottom of the page.
