In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry anyone know FYB EXOTICS?

The reason I am asking is, I was cruising KS and saw one of their ads, for shipping they use Delta, DHL,and postal service. If I am not mistaken isn't that a federal offense? I may be wrong, and sorry if I am, but I don't think so

Yes, you are wrong. It is not a federal law against shipping anything except snakes with USPS. Lizards and turtles are just fine, but no snakes. As for DHL, or Delta dash, it is ok with any harmless reptile.
But let me say this, USPS really is the worst way to ship reptiles, they are not reliable at all. Also with USPS the box must be clearly marked with the exact reptile you are shipping, that is the law.

Actually, though you may get varying responses from different "offices", DHL does not ship snakes anymore. I was under the impression that lizards and turtles were out, too...but comments from some people have left me uncertain. If I didn't dislike DHL so much, I would probably check - but I do.
Also, the box is supposed to be clearly marked with the exact reptile(s) regardless of which shipping company is used.

this of course has nothing to do with FYB exotics

I have had several transactions with Josh, and he is honest to deal with. My shipments were usually through FedEx and my payments to him were through PayPal.

All I know is their two ads are for baby Boas. DHL told me they ship no reptiles at all, no biggie, I will give Fedex and Delta all my business, both have no problem with any reptile shipping, and I am certified with both.

#1. Josh is a good guy I did a trade with him about a year or so ago.

#2. DHL doesnt ship reptiles BUT for some reason they dont consider turtles, tortises, and lizards as reptiles.????? I know I think they only consider snakes as reptiles so when I ship thru them I ALWAYS mark my packages as LIVE TURTLES and (knock on wood) I have yet to have a problem with them.
Hope this helps

When I called DHL to ask about shipping reptiles, I was told that they DO ship them, then I was told that they DO NOT ship them. I even called the risk management department, and there I was told that they do not ship snakes b/c someone could put venomous reptiles in the box. I told them that I have RECEIVED reptiles including snakes from others through them. They said that the company that shipped them may have signed a waiver in order to have them shipped.

Technically, UPS does not ship snakes either, only lizards. FedEx will ship anything as long as you send them a empty package done up like you were really shipping a live animal. Then they have to approve it and it takes like 4-6 weeks for that to happen.

Ahhh, the joys of doing business!! :)

Obes,

Welcome to the BOI! Make sure you add your name to your posts ASAP before one of the moderators give you warning points. Just rules of the site. :)

Regards.

Hi Rick

It is just my opinion but it is better to start a thread like this one in the general business section before associating someone’s name on the BOI because you are not sure about what shipping methods are legal.
Also, in the shipping section there many threads that deals with this topic.

Did the ad mention that he would specifically ship a snake through the post office? If not, then there is nothing to be concerned over.

Harald mentioned it in his post, but I wanted to highlight your post, just to make sure you (if you do ship reptiles) or anybody else is browsing and wasn't sure.

You have to mark any and all boxes with the reptile you are shipping, no matter who you ship through, not just USPS. It's a provision of the federal LACEY ACT laws.

The only reason this thread was started here, was FYB Exotics had 2 ads on Kingsnake for baby Redtail boas. They didn't state whether or not they also sold turtles, lizards etc. Those 2 ads lead me to believe they are sending Redtails through the Postal Service. As far as associating anyones name, they did that with their ad. As far as my knowledge on the subject of legal shipping, I know the Post Office is not on the legal list, but yet people continue to send these babies by that method. I do not know FYB Exotics, and am not trying to cause them a problem. Just wanted to bring to their attention shipping these animals this way is not legal, or acceptable.

It is legal to ship lizards and turtles/tortoises via USPS, as long as they are labeled appropriately (again, this is Federal law and pertains to all reptile shipments regardless of carrier). It is inappropriate to post this here because there is no indication that they are doing anything inappropriate. If you had just left it as an inquiry of people's experiences with them, that would have been fine. What Dennis was pointing out is that a question about what shipping methods are appropriate/legal, belongs in the Shipping forum...where if you did a search, all these questions would have been answered on existing threads or promptly answered in a new post. you shouldn't raise red flags about a business based on your assumption...posts here are forever, and could influence potential customers

I agree shipping through the post office is a huge problem. My opinion on the BOI regarding this problem is well known.
Regarding the ads,
Most people have a generic signature at the bottom of all their ads and it could be they are shipping supplies and other items by the post office and not snakes.

Never gave that a thought, if that is the case then fine, but, I am curious why this person won't speak for himself, I see the co. name at the bottom of the page. This could have been done 2 pages ago. I don't mean to go on and on about this but I believe it is a subject that needs attention. What I put in my ads represents myself and my animals.

Probably, because for the most part it really is a non issue. FYB Exotics sells all kinds of stuff, and like a lot of the other breeders/importers, especially ones who deal in a lot of volume, they put the same info or "disclaimer" on all their ads. So whether the ad is for Dart Frogs, Retics, Chameleons, Calcium, etc. it lists all the shipping methods they use.

Josh from FYB Exotics just PMed me, I totally understand when dealing with quantity, a standard ad is used. I am not in that league, apparently I shouldn't believe everything I read. Nuff Said!
