In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I purchased 1.1 adult proven yellow ackies. They are Western Giants and look awesome. They are coming on Tuesday or Wensday. I have a cage all set up for them. I'm using a 55 long (48X12X18) for now, as they are just over a year, and 14 inches long. They proved out last month apparently. I have my basking spot over 125 and 79 on the cool side. I have slate and logs and lots of hiding spots with 8 inches of sand/soil mix. (50:50). I know they eat a lot, so I got 1000 crickets for them this week, and soon some super worms and mice. I bought yellows, as I have heard they are less shy, and jumpy as reds. Can someone please post some pics of their set up and animals. I hope to breed these ackies soon. I have heard they are easier to breed than most monitors. I have breed rhacodactylus geckos and soon velvet geckos and I want to try my hands at monitors. Any tips for breeding these. I plan to bath the ackies each week, and keep the substrate moist for burrows. Any Suggestions on my set up? Thanks

Improper environments

Hello Palex!

Nice to see you stepping up to Varanus. However monitors should not be soaked. They should be kept in a suitable environment that allows for them to maintain their desired humidity and moisture level. If you have to soak them it means they arent kept in a proper environment with suiable humididty. It is why proper substrates are of paramount importance. Substrate should be able to retain moisture without getting wet and also maintain a burrow. This holds true for all varanus. Also give them a basking spot of around 150 degrees a warm end of around 90 and a cool end of around 69. Remember unlike warm and cool end temps basking temps are a surface not an air temp. Basically there are 2 types of lizards monitors and monitor food :eatsmiley :eatpointe :eatsmiley

Digby, long time no see.

Thanks for the advice on the soaking. I plan to add water into the substrate when it needs it. I have the basking at 140 now and I will get it higher. the cool end is about 70 and warm just above 90. Thanks for the advice!
