    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have a group of bloods. imported bangkas (thanks again, Ben) - in my possession for about a year, and well acclimated. To my eyes, 2.3.1. I admit that I am unsure about the sex of the one - but if you have ever tried to probe an imported blood by yourself, you would understand why. It is between the sizes of the other males and females, and I go back and forth on my impression based on physical assessment. Anyway, they are being cooled, and my plan is to divide them up into 2 groups for breeding. My concern is about how much combat to expect if the mystery blood is a male. At least if I see that, it will clue me in, lol. The unknown is still rather pi$$y (as are the males) so separating the combatants could be a chore if they really go at it.
 
Ooh, fun! I don't know if you have tried yet, but bag the blood. I put all my snakes head first in bags when I probe. I have a second person hold the bag and snake down while I probe the tail sticking out.

I have not had to deal with fighting males before so I have no advice for you on that it.

That implies the availability of a second person, lol. I actually did have my friend/vet take a look at this one a while back (she used to breed bloods). I controlled the snake while she probed...I forget the exact depth, but it was a little deep for a female and a little short for a male...pretty much right between.
 
Lol, well that just ruins everything!

Do Bloods show any outer signs that they are male or female. Larger tail, spurs or anything like that? I have never owned a Blood or done any real research on them.
 
I don't recall noticing much difference in spur development - but again, it is hard to get a good look at the pi$$y ones...they just don't want any of that touchy feely crap. There is a (usually) notable difference in the tails, but I waver in my assessment of this one. I'm just gonna put it in with at least one known entity and see who it plays nicest with, lol.
 
The other thing that makes it just a bit harder to tell is that they have fairly prominent ( I've heard them called scent/anal/musk) glands which they evert when you mess with them...and they look like a smaller version of the hemipenes. It is also very easy to accidentally insert the probe into these glands and get an incorrect assessment. If I don't witness copulation (my first & preferred indicator), I think I will just swap my groupings around a few times and hope that they figure things out...the ones that lay eggs are definitely the females.
 
Hey Harald, I am very interested to hear how the breeding of your Banka's is going. Yeah, it is awfully tough to probe an adult Blood by yourself,let alone a WC. I think Junkyard has the right idea,2 people, and a bag. I had to probe a WC male about a month ago,and I used this method,it works. In my personal experience with probing these guys a male will probe at least 2 times the depth of a female,there is a big difference in the 2, if you are using the proper sized probe.It is impossible to accidently insert the probe into the scent gland,the probe passes into the hemipenis homologue in the female, or the actual hemipenis of the male. The homologues in the female do not evert, the scent glands do, (Barker),and there is a definite difference in appearence between the scent glands of the female, and the hemipenis of the male. I have had 2 males in with a single female on several occasions,and have never seen combat of any kind between the males. This is just from my own personal experience,Hope this helps out.
 
Well, frankly, I didn't see anything...no combat (even light pushing), no courtship, no copulation, nothing. They are all separated and feeding again, so time will tell.
I agree that there is a difference in appearance between the scent gland and the male hemipenes, but have to disagree about the possibility of getting the probe into the scent gland...sort of. The probe may have been a bit small, but I have witnessed a gland eversion during a probing attempt (not mine), and the probe was in it. My guess is that the snake was cranky and starting to express the gland when the probe was inserted.
 
well maybe the pissy one is a he she lol. my cream is very pissy he rattels and hisses. not much hissing as bighting. but i'm getting him to feed in his tank. good look with the meany
 
Actually, when I put them together, I was down to only one absolute demon. My three biggest tolerated handling for normal maintenance, and the other two were iffy. Now of course, they all suck again but that could be a good thing (eggs?).
