    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

got a new baby albino burm. judging by his/her <-- (dont no) size, 32 inches, about how old would you say it is?
and heres him/her
look healthy?

its eating very well and is always very alert and active and very interested in whats going on around him/her. also can get mean so im guessing its pretty heathly, but im not good at this so i think i'll just ask. lol.

I also notice it has little black specks under its scales, and i know its some kind of bug or parasite, wat do you think it is? how can i treat it? they look like little tiny black moving specks with legs. i soaked her, and i noticed some dead ones all drowned in the water dish.
 
At the size mentioned, your burm is most likely an '05 hatchling...to go more specific than that (ie: what month) would be pure speculation. Burmese pythons grow very quickly, and average size at 1yr is 4-6 ft. Hatchlings do tend to be a bit nippy (meaning: they bite, lol) but most turn into pretty docile snakes. Just keep handling it gently. The black specks you are seeing are mites. They are a type of external parasite that is both an irritant, and a danger to your snake. I say a danger, because they can spread disease quickly through a collection. Mites also reproduce very rapidly, and seeing a few black specks today can turn into a major infestation in a matter of weeks. There are many methods of getting rid of (killing) mites. First, thoroughly clean & disinfect your snakes enclosure, water bowl, and any "cage furniture" you are currently using. for the time being, use newspaper for the bedding. You should soak the snake for an hour or so in a container of tepid water (make sure the water is not too deep, an inch or two is fine at that size. the snake should be able to rest his head on his body to keep it above the surface) this will drown some of the mites, and you will see them in the water. For actually treating the situation (killing mites and eggs), you can use a product called Provent-a-Mite. You can also go to WalMart and buy a can of Equate Bedding Spray. This is a product for treating lice, but has the same ingredients and is safe when used as directed. It is also MUCH cheaper. simply spray it lightly on the clean newspaper about 10-15 minutes before you put your snake back in the enclosure. you should reclean/disinfect the cage weekly. Retreat with the spray after 10-14 days, and continue for at least one treatment after you stop seeing live mites. At that point, you can use whatever substrate you want, and return to your normal clean schedule. good luck, and enjoy your snake.

BTW - you should also treat the boa, while you are at it. Even if you haven't seen them on it; they spread quickly, and are probably already there.
 
just took another look at the pics - looks like he has some mites accumulated around his eyes (sorry, its been a long night & I don't recall the proper term...it isn't eyelids - anyway, mites get under the skin around the eyes). That won't go away until he/she sheds. You COULD, if you were so inclined, try lightly swabbing them out with a wet Qtip...but be careful, and use good swabs (not the ones where the shaft is barely covered). If you are not comfortable doing that, just let it shed clean.
And while you're treating - keep the branch out...just another place for the little buggers to hide.

ok. i went and got Rid Home Lice Control spray since they didnt have any equate. i disinfected the cage, put newspaper on the bottom of the cages and sprayed the paper with the lice control. since this isnt equate, will it be harmful or not take as long or longer? just wondering. i can never be sure.
 
not being familiar with the product, or the ingredients, I cannot comment on whether it is "the same thing" or if it is safe...since you have already used it, time will tell.
