NEW HANOVER COUNTY -- A New Hanover County teen will serve time behind bars for breaking into a New Hanover County zoo.
David Ballard pleaded guilty to felony breaking and entering, felony cruelty to animals and two counts of possession of a weapon by a felon.
He'll spend between 10-14 months in prison.
Detectives say Ballard and two other teens broke into the zoo last November, killed a prairie dog and stole a cage of snakes.
Joshua Honeycutt and Jordan Johnson go to court March 13.
