In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

If you are a owner of a tegu and would like to say how well you like them, here is your chance. :) Or, If you do not own a tegu and would like to. Also if you have owned a tegu in the past, we would like your thoughts as well. :)

I had a few gold tegus when I first started in the hobby. The power in those compact bodies is really impressive!! I let Nitro (a 3ft male) have free run of the room during the day for a while...until I caught the little bugger in the act. I had been having a problem with temperature spikes, and kept finding the heater controls changed...I couldn't figure out what was happening until I walked in one day. There was Nitro, on his hind legs pawing at the contol - apparently he wanted a warmer basking spot, lol.
I know it sounds far fetched, but it happened.

Thats a awesome story Harald. I would not doubt it, tegus are real smart. :)

I have had

all but the Red Tegu, i want to get one eventually... I currently have 3 Tegus, a 3.5 foot Blue male, a black and white 3 foot female and a 2ft. black and white female.. They are pretty impressive.. Mike

I love my tegus, I currently have 2 argentine black and white's one male and one female, and I am currently waiting for my first Argentine Red female to come strolling up to my door any minute now, but as of this post, she isn't here yet. I wish I had my own house (i live with my parents) and I wish it was somewhere down south (like florida for the weather, etc.) Then I would have the space to have a few of each different color. I love them to death, and I would get more, but my parents limit me to my room with my animal habitats and my room is only so big. (21' x 24') (i built it myself :) ) I barely have room for myself in there at the moment. I would recommend a tegu to anyone from my experiences with them.

i guess i'm a little late on this post but thought i'd chime in any ways . i think tegus are awesome critters . i would really like to get one but i just plain dont have the space right now to house one properly and i wont keep something that i cant keep in optimal conditions .

For those that have had red tegus, vs the argentine black and whites, how is the temperment between them? I've heard great stuff about the argentine, but not much on the red's disposition.
Wolfy

Reds get tame as well, but they are a little more shy than the Argentine B n Ws.

I'll let ya know what I think tomorrow, Bobby. Waiting until 10:30 for my tegu to arrive tomorrow morning is going to kill me.

Noah(my arg BW from Varnyard) is still great, and is occasionally silly, spoiled and smart. The reds are tame.. but they don't always care to be messed with. Gracie(the female red) has recently discovered the wonders of having her jaw scratched and so I do that a lot. Noah will demand to be taken out in the evenings. They seemmost active during the afternoon evening, but that's when I'm around, so more stuff happens then, the tv going, me moving around, the dogs fussing and running around. I just love them!
Thank you Bobby for talking me into Noah!!
Theresa

Thanks Theresa!! I am sure Noah did a bunch of talking himself, they do have a way of doing that, lol. :)

New to Fauna but I've had a Tegu for a few months now. He's a young Argentine B&W who tolerates some handling (on his terms), feeds voraciously, sleeps a lot and bangs on the glass frantically anytime he realises I'm around. I'm not sure exactly what it means because if I reach into him he's snapping and tail-whipping but if I open the glass he generally walks straight out onto my hand.

The problem with him being on my hand is that he wants to scuttle up my arm or he'll stand in my hand and try to jump up and snap at my face. I'm sure he sees this as playful but it scares me, most times, into not wanting to handle him much.

Still love hime though.

:)

I have an Argentinian red tegu, they may be shy , but only when strangers are about. If they feel safe the will lie on there backs in your arms and relax so you can stroke there stomachs. (well ours does LOL)

We have two - an adult female who's about 42" long, and a nine-month-old we think might be a male (who is trying to open his sliding glass doors behind me right now).

Domino, the female, is a fantastic lizard, and she goes with us on school educational trips. Chess, the little one, is looking like he might be even better for the school trips.

I would dearly love to have a blue (and maybe an albino or snow someday) ... but to my knowledge nobody who's breeding them will export to Europe.
