    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

i have a 20 L tank and am debating on whether or not i should get a pacman frog or a corn snake. i do have uth heaters that i can use for the tank for heat and all. i have some questions. What is the best substrate for the tank? i have bed a beast and peat moss. how deep of substrate should i use? is there a humidity range(i haven't found one in all the articles i have read)? if i decide to split the tank and get 2, would this cause stress on them? how often should the substrates be changed that are listed above? thank you for your input.

If you opt to split the tank and get two (pacman frogs), I would recommend that you NOT use a clear divider. While they may not be stressed by each others presence, they may be excited by any movement on the other side (especially if they are hungry). I house young pacman (and/or pixie) frogs in sterilite shoe boxes, and when one of them jumps sometimes it sets off a chain reaction. It's pretty funny to watch, but the bins move around a bit so they are hitting the sides pretty hard.
I'll be honest, I don't keep them the recommended way...at least not all the time. There is no soil, peat, sphagnum, etc in their enclosures. I put a little water (dechlorinated, of course) in the bottom, and that is usually it. This allows me to see when they have defecated, and clean it immediately. It's pretty hard to see frog turds in soil, especially when they have their butts dug in, lol. I do put older specimens in soil for about 2 months to let them aestivate.
If you do decide to go for the frogs, be careful not to overfeed them. Pixies are worse than pacmans, but the pacmans have still been known to eat themselves to death. I feed babies 3-6 crickets per week (two feedings. I usually switch to strips of rat pups pretty early...I hate feeding bugs). Once they take whole rat pups, I cut them to 1 weekly feeding, then back them off to every other week as they grow. You can make them grow faster by feeding them more often, but they live longer if you don't.

I know I left the substrate change and humidity questions unanswered, but they are non-issues with the way I keep mine so I can't really comment.

thank you so much harold for your info. i was debating on the substrate issue. i was actually debating on whether or not to use repti-carpet or astro-turf and then provide a hide box of peat moss that they could hang out in and have a water bowl on the other side of the tank. i have forceps for feeding and can feed mealies,superworms, roaches, and get some nightcrawlers and pinkies when needed.

got the set-up set up ;D

Well i finally got the 20 gallon set up!! i have 3/4 of the tank with bed a beast packed down and a large water bowl with a hide spot for it. i have 1/4 of the tank with some gravel on the bottom with repti-bark on that covered with moist terrarium moss for the moist side and there is a big artificial plant in the corner for cover. i have a uth on the side of the tank where the moist spot is. right now the humidity if 90% and the ambient air temp is at 77. i'll be getting the frog sunday. hopefully i should have all the variants controlled by then. can't wait!!! :) :) :)
