In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Very Wierd request I know--- Send me your decesed snakes for money

A buddy of mine is doing a project on preserving snake body's, and he would like to know if any one has any snakes that have recently passed and if your willing to ship the body so he can preseve it, you would not get your snake back. Once received I will send you between $10-20 through paypal, depending on the snake and shipping (which should be inexpensive because you don't need overnight or DHL). please no decaying body's (eww). This would be a good way to preserve your poor hatchling's that just were not strong enough =/

While I am sure that the USPS prohibition against shipping snakes has to do with escape and the ensuant dangers of getting bitten, as far as I know the statute says nothing about the difference between shipping living/dead snakes. I'd hate to be in the position of explaining to the USPS that I didn't commit a federal crime because the snake was dead before shipping, they would assume it died in transit. The possibility of a felony rap is not worth $10, in my opinion.

Re

You can wrap the snake in plastic wrap, showing that the snake could not be alive, my friend has had snakes that have passed away shipped to him many times with out any problem. He has had hatchlings sent to him in big envelopes wrapped up in pastic wrap. You could always take a picture with a date before you send it. Your making the situation a little more difficult that it actually is, sorry for the misunderstanding.

The problem is the hassle of proof. And as I said, the USPS statute does not say that the prohibition is only against live snakes and if the judge wants to make a point, he/she will and you will have to spend thousands to fight it out in federal court.

I'm not telling anyone what their choices ought to be, I'm just pointing out that there are real risks here. Worth ten bucks? You be the judge......

I read a lot of posts about how shipping snakes via the USPS is illegal but is anything ever done about it?

Has anyone ever been caught?

If so, has anyone ever been prosecuted for shipping snakes USPS, live or dead?

Does anyone have documentation to back up any claims made?

That's a good point. It's not like they have snake detectors or snake sniffing dogs. I've definitely never heard of anyone having to spend thousands of dollars going to court by sending a wrapped up dead snake through the mail either, And I don't think anyone would be prosecuted if its wrapped so that even if it was alive to begin with it would've die within a minute of suffocation. If its dead already they wouldn't bother, like you said, spending thousands of dollars to go to court, because they would have to pay too. UPS isn't out to try and frame people of sending live snakes.

But to each is own I guess.

I can see what y'all are saying, and no, I do not have statistics on how often this federal law is enforced. I do think that I would not chance getting caught for this felony and the resulting possibility of a huge fine or hard time on the above advice. I can't imagine anyone taking that risk for $10.
But y'all are correct, to each his own.

I know lots of hunters who have shipped me all kinds of bones and frozen animals, so as long as the box is secure and the animal is in a freeze pak or some kind of insulation, you could probably claim it is for taxidermy purposes. However, unless you know the rules about what kinds of animal parts you can ship, i would not take the risk myself.

I know this is old but, I know someone who got caught sending a snake through USPS to California. He said that the Post Master called him and asked him if they could open the package. He said yeah because it was already there and whatever. So they opened it, found the snake, and called back to confirm it. Then they called the recipient to pick it up and they thanked him and never called again. Not saying thats what would happen in all cases, but it seems odd they are adamant about not shipping snakes yet do nothing about it.
