An interesting note to this story not mentioned in this particular article. The tortoise was found a little less than 2 miles from the owners home. Not a very adventureous tortoise to have been gone for 9 months haha.

A tortoise who went AWOL nine months ago was back home today thanks to an owner who had the foresight to shell out on a microchip.
Horace disappeared from the St Brides Super Ely area of Cardiff, South Wales, in August of last year.
He was picked up by the RSPCA whizzing up the middle of a country road in St Fagens, Cardiff, yesterday.
After a brief visit to a local vet the male Herman's tortoise was found to be fitted with a microchip ID.
The chip revealed not only that the tortoise was named Horace but that he was also carrying around his full home address.
Now the RSPCA is highlighting the role that microchipping animals can play in ensuring wayward pets do not stay lost.
RSPCA Inspector Nic De Celis said: The owner advised me that Horace had gone missing from their garden in August of last year.

His owner had spent weeks looking for him but feared the worst thinking Horace would never have survived the winter.
They were so surprised to receive my call and are delighted that they will be reunited with their long-lost pet this afternoon.
He added: This is such a wonderful story and highlights the clear benefit of having your pet microchipped.
For a few pounds you have the knowledge that if your pet should go missing or wander off, if they are found you will be reunited with them.
If Horace had not been microchipped it would have been extremely unlikely that owner and pet would ever have met again.
