PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) -- See you later, alligator.
An alligator found wandering Pawtucket was given yesterday to a Massachusetts company that has promised to find the stray reptile a new home.
Pawtucket animal control officers captured the two-foot alligator Tuesday after receiving a phone call from a startled woman. She had spotted the ‘gator from inside her home near Slater Memorial Park.
When animal control officers showed up, they taped the reptile's snout shut and placed it in a cage at the city animal shelter. Animal Control Officer John Holmes says no one had claimed the alligator by yesterday.
He speculates that the reptile was probably someone's pet. It may have been discarded when the owner realized the two-foot repitle could grow more than six feet long.
