In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi guys. I got a new Argentine black and white tegu a month ago. Not exactly the puppy that my kids wanted, but not too far off - LOL! Taz has a great personality, totally different from my other herps. She/he is very smart and LOVES to interact with people. She/he is awake and waiting for me every morning to crawl up my arm and sit on my head. Anyway....I think I pretty much have all of the husbandy basics down, but I do have a couple of questions. First of all - how quickly do they grow, generally speaking? She/he grew 2 1/2 inches in the last 4 weeks. Is this a good growth rate (taking into consideration that she was adjusting to a knew home during this time) or should she be growing faster? Also - at 19 inches long is she/he big enough to be sexed? I don't know the first thing about sexing tegus. Bearded dragons are easy...but this is a little more difficult. Any pointers on how to tell males from females? And last, but not least, I am wanting to try to train her a little. Is it ok to give her treats by hand, or will this be a bad thing for her to associate my hand with food? I don't want to loose fingers when she/he is older - lol!

Jamie, she sounds like she is doing great. I would say she is growing at a good rate. :)

As for hand feeding, it is a no no for sure. Tegus can and will have a very strong feeding responce. It is always bad to let them take food from your hand. It is cute as a baby, but what about when she gets 4 ft or larger?

yes they quickly associate certain things with feeding. my blue male will lunge himself into the door at the sight of my tongs. lol that would not be a good thing for hands. my red male crimson is the nigest baby in the world but if i have my tongs he will repeatedly bite them even though there is nothing on them. then i feel bad and have to find him something lol. so i think it is best to find one feeding tool and stick wth it like tongs.
