OCALA, Fla. -- A 42-year-old woman is recovering after being bitten by a poisonous snake while shopping.
Emergency medical workers said that the woman was shopping for plants at a Lowe's Home Improvement store when she noticed a stinging feeling in her leg. Medics discovered she had been bitten twice on the right shin.
Employees killed the 1-foot-long dusky pygmy rattlesnake with a yard tool. The snake is one of six poisonous varieties native to Florida.
Lowe's spokeswoman Karen Cobb says it's not clear where the snake came from. She says store employees scoured the area but found no other snakes, and the company isn't aware of anything similar happening in Lowe's before.
