Herping in Northrn Virginia

I live in Fairfax county and am interested in herping. I have many reptiles (tortoises, snakes lizards) so I am experienced handling. I was wondering if anybody new any good places in Northern Virginia to begin. Thanks

Anywhere and everywhere dude. Lol. I live in the Peninsula, Hampton specifically. And I've been herping all over VA. And depends on what kind of herps you are looking for. There such a wide variances of clusters that tend to like some areas more than others. Such as, copperheads seem to like areas around Charlettesville, excuse me if I misspell, cotton mouths seem to like the coastal areas. Dismal swap is an awesome place to find them in abundance, as well as your copperhead. Dismal is also area and some areas of the peninsula and up are good places to look for timber rattlers. But can be hard to find and remain elusive at times. Yorktown/Newport News border area where you can find woods is a great area to find box turtles and other species. Aquatic turtles are almost everywhere you go in VA. The coastline all along the state is a great place to find eastern black rats and racers, though the later tend to stay closure to grassy fields. I usally see racers around horse and cow pastures. Alot of the water ways such as Back Bay and Ft. Eustis area is a good place to find your freindly neighborhood brown mud snake, which alot of people mistake as a cotton mouth due to the pattern that can resemble it fellow cousin. But like I said it depends on what you are looking for. And also another factor is what area of Northern VA are you looking because all these and more you are able to find all over VA, but tend to be more abundant in certain areas as I said.
