In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

New advertisement problems?

OK, so I notice there have been a few changes around here lately, with some Google stuff and new ad banners below the toobar where it lists "user cp, FAQ, Trader ratings", etc. I don't see as many changes when I'm logged in, I do notice it more when I on occasion stop in from work and don't log in, and none of the changes have bothered me until now.

I currently see a banner type ad for something called, "Study Buddy", but when I click on the "search" or "quick links" to get the drop down menus, they go BEHIND the ad, and I cannot use the search function, nor whatever items in the quick links menu are behind the ad. I do a lot of searching on here, and not being able to use it is REALLY annoying me! Anyone else having this issue??? Any way to correct it? I've got all of my pop-up blocker type stuff on......... :shrug01:

Hm......a different ad is up now, and the search and everything are fine with that ad.

Pftht, now I look dumb. LOL.

What browser are you using? and what version? It could just be that... If you dont already, id recommend getting Mozilla Firefox. So much better than IE

Absolutely!

I switched to Firefox a couple of months ago and Microsoft will never get me back.

With Firefox, you simply load the extensions that you want to use. The impact on your processor is much lower. I also recommend the NoScript extension. It allows you to decide what is blocked and what gets through. Not all pop-up blockers can do this. On Fauna, I allow faunaclassifieds and faunaads, but do not allow googlesyndication. Bottom line - I don't see any of the google ads.

Try it out - you'll love it.

I have also switched from Microsoft Outlook to Mozilla Thunderbird.
Another great (free) product.

:p nah somtimes ads just mess with the code. I still say make the switch to Firefox, and check out all the extensions you can add on.

If you use Gmail as your email service you can get a Gmail Notification right in your navigation toolbar! you dont even have to GO to the webiste to see that you have mail.

They have all sorts of ad blocking extensions too which can block everything you can think of. Its really the most handy browser you could ever use!

Also, its got tabbed browsing. Meaning.. you dont have a thousand windows open at the bottom of the start bar. the tabs are all just under the navigation bar at the top of the screen!

For those of you applauding FireFox...

You might want to take into consideration that a lot of websites go screwy in that browser. Something in the codeing is not reading websites correctly (specifically I've noticed with CSS). You'd think if it was supposed to be the next great thing in web browsers that they'd fix the issue. :shrug01:

I use FireFox only when I am here & on cornsnakes.com because I can completely block the ads that have been here as of late.

This problem can be addressed with the IE Tab extension.
It's a one click fix that changes the rendering engine. I haven't had to use it very often, but for those sites that are Firefox unfriendly, it works very well.

Hah hah. That's funny, it actually did fix the issue! I had downloaded the extension curious what it did, never bothered to use it.

It's even funnier that the great FireFox has to use an IE extension to get sites to work properly. It sad that you have to manually enter the sites in however.

the reason why is alot of older pages are written with IE exclusive HTML and such. I would go to some sites with the same Problems open them up in the IE tabs extension and they were fine.

Its still a fairly new browser, especially compared to IE, but theyre working out alot of the other bugs pretty well. HTML last year used to be really wonky if it was typed certain ways, or spaced funny, so you had to be careful when typing it up and such.

Im glad it helped for you and now i hope you make the complete conversion over :p firefox DOES rule!

No, I won't be making the complete conversion until they fix whatevers wrong with the codeing of the FireFox Browser. I won't take the time to enter each website that is not FireFox compatible.

Actually, it's not a problem with Firefox coding at all. Firefox is 100% web standards compliant in it's rendering engine. The sad thing is IE is not and the majority of websites are written to be IE compliant, not web standard compliant. If you find a site that doesn't look correctly in Firefox, you should write them and point it out to them, asking them to tell their web programmer to stop taking shortcuts.

Maybe those sites NOT compliant enough for Firefox to work properly really don't care to do so. Perhaps they WANT to have their Google ads generate some income for them and not very much inclined to help people circumvent their efforts........ Just a guess...... :D

Your site works just fine in Firefox Rich. I can see the Google ads just fine and they do not interfere with any of the functions...lol :bolt01:

In my opinion, the appeal of Firefox is as follows:

1. With added extensions, it can do anything that IE can do. But you don't have to have this enormous program running with features that don't interest you. Simply load the extensions that you want.

2. It is open source. In other words, it is free and is constantly being improved.

3. Unlike IE, it does not report back to corporate headquarters with all of the information it is able to get from both your computer and your online browsing habits.

I have made the move completely and am very happy with both Firefox and Thunderbird (the email program). I have imported everything over from Outlook and will never look back.

p.s. I can count on one hand the sites that I have encountered that do not work properly with the Firefox rendering engine. As Dennis pointed out, that is the fault of the website, not Firefox, for being non-compliant with the standardized web protocols.

I wouldn't recommend that. Their are people out there who do not care if the current browser craze does not work with their site and will not pay to have it compatible with all browsers. You're likely to tick a number of people off.

Mike, I'm going to check out the Thunderbird email client. I've been slowly loseing my temper with Outlook's speed.

if youre doing a google search, all you have to do is Right click on the link, and click Open in IE tab. When youre using tabbed browsing its really nothing different than opening up a new tab, its just one more link down.

id really recommend it... its not hard and takes no time at all. then youre not switching browsers every little while either.

Stephanie,
If you download Thunderbird, you will definitely want to get Lightning (the calendar extension). It will allow you to import all of your Outlook calendar listings.

I downloaded Thunderbird & so far I'm happy. They need to make a Pinkshift Theme so that it'll match my FireFox browser. ;) I've never used the Outlook calendar, but I'll go ahead and install Lightning...I may just use it now!

O, and if anyone needs FTP software...Mozilla's FileZilla I highly recommend. I've been useing it for close to a year & have now installed it on all the machines at work. :)

Hey Mike, have you had problems with vulgar spam when you switched to Thunderbird? All of a sudden I'm getting mass emails for the usual sexually explicit stuff. I never had this problem with Outlook (and nothing was every in my junk folder). I'm trying to set up filters to prevent it, but I'm afraid of blocking customers/clients.
