    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have a question about building a snake rack we are using plastic tubs to put the snakes in my question is do you put the lids on the tubs or keep them off? We are having a problem deciding which is the best way to do this and what the benifits are to either way.

I personally prefer lids off. Not sure if you are familiar with Clay Davenport's site, but he has a great step by step tutorial (with pics) on his site. There is a ton of great info all across his site. Clay is definitely one the great guys in the herp community.

These are the same plans I used to build my rack only I made mine 6' tall. It works great.

i used these same plans for my first rack..but i used belly heat instead of back.
 
about belly heat vs. back heat

which would be better for snakes (I have corns and ball pythons) back heat or belly heat?

The corns will do fine with back heat, the balls will do better with belly heat.
I, apparently, am the misfit...I use the lids. I made that choice for two reasons - 1) I made my racks out of melamine (think moisture damage and cleaning issues), and 2) for much of my time in this hobby, I dealt with fairly aggressive animals. Having the box open as soon as it slides out is not the best idea when the animal contained within wants to eat your face. Granted, I don't have anything particularly aggressive now, but old habits and mindsets die hard.
